For all I know, this is some sad publicity stunt pulled by MS. After the stinkin' gmail man, I wouldnt be surprised.

I've been an Opera user for about a decade.

I can assure you, firsthand, that this report is bullshit. :)

i think whoever thought up this waste-of-time survey must be using IE

You mean Safari right?

"Correlation does not imply causation".

As Justin already said (techincally quoted), the defining factor of this study was not that using a certain web browsers will make you stupid, but that stupid people tend to migrate towards using certain web browsers.

It is interesting in that it raises questions of what "stupid" people find most important in a web browser. And if you don't see how this could possibly be important (market share grabbing), then you are most likely among said audience. Idiots use the internet too, and the income they generate is just as good as the rest of us.

I would agree that individuals with alot of time on their hands can afford to putz with various customation options of the browsers mentioned here. We have an install base of over 3000 Windows OS devices/desktops.... If I open up the options for end users to tweak to their hearts content, they would spend HOURS a week, just to save MINUTES during their browsing sessions, which they are not supposed to be doing in the first place.

Let's stop getting a thrill out of endless browser tweaks, during business hours that is. Go ahead and waste your personal hours any way you want. Personally, after coding for 10-12 hours a day.. I have no time for browser dribble.

I use IE and Chrome for now, but in the past I used to do I-net tech support, so I tended to prefer IE since nearly all of the customers were using it . . .

Agreed. The only reason why I still use I.E. from time to time is that some sties only work  with I.E. and that most of our customers here at the shop (and our contracted customers) use I.E. I personally use Firefox myself.

Safari I'm sure, is a sure sign of stupid is as stupid does.

I think it more or less shows that a majority of people using IE are those who go with the default of anything they are given and are therefore less curious and have lower IQ's because the trend of those who are content with what they are given is to be followers.

If someone on the other hand has tried other browsers and is concerned with their computers safety but still choose IE over other because they like it and already practice safe internet habits then they will have higher IQ's as well as anyone else.

Hmm, so since I have used K-Meleon... What does that make me? I just started using FireFox not long ago. Judging by the fact I use a NetScape UI on my mozilla browsers, this must make me an old fashioned person, which makes sense. But I use IE sometimes because I am forced to.

Does this mean that only dumb people use Internet Explorer or that only smart people can figure out Opera?  I'm pretty sure that when I switched from IE to Netscape (and since to Firefox) my IQ didn't go up by 20 points.  This sort of test is, in itself, stupid.  How could your preference of browser dictate your IQ?  It may be different with cars or homes or jobs but browsers (which are free to everyone) is a really dumb method of trying to make people feel stupid.  Preference doesn't make you stupid.
