Half-life. Perfect Dark. What, those aren't military shooters? That horse was beaten to death long ago.

BF1942 wwas awesome.
I liked the Desert Combat and Eve of Destruction mods done for it.

I played some two years ago and it was still great.

SeAL Team by Electronic Arts. All you kiddies will have to go look it up, but it was a groundbreaking game when it was released in '93. It was a tactical sneaker/shooter, not a twitch game like all those listed in this article. That means you used your brain to play it rather than your hormones, which automatically excludes 95% of the modern gamer population.

It was particularly fascinating to me because it recreated dozens of actual SeAL missions from Viet Nam. Spending two hours crawling from your insertion point on the river so you can get in position to assassinate a VC tax collector is a type of gameplay people don't seem much interested in nowadays, unfortunately.

Fasterfastertwitchtwitch. Guess that's the price of video gaming becoming mainstream: all the mouth breathers bring down the average I.Q. of the customer base and the suits start demanding that their devs crank out cheap clones and sequels, the better to appeal to Johnny Rottenbrain with his thumb-tastic console.

We get you like the game but do you have to be such a dick about it?

Your post reads like this: I'm awesome and everybody else is a mindless idiot that doesn't know how to play a real game I deemed superior over everything else.

I agree with lunchbox,

You sound like an arrogant dick that dismisses anyone's opinion if they don't have the same views as yours.

I was in my 20's when Seal came out so I'm not a kiddie either.

One of my favorite all-time FPS shooters didn't make this list but I'm not going to log in and disrespect everyone else because of it.

Can't believe BF2 didn't make the list.

Strike at Karkand alone is awesome. Even after several years of not playing it I still hear "Oh nos".

Nova Logic Black Hawk Down / Joint Operations

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six was heavily popular in its infancy as a series. It's missing from your list. Battlefield 2 deserves classic status as well. Also its absolutely absurd that there is no mention of Delta Force 1 & 2 by developer NovaLogic. It truely belongs on your list if you are talking classic military shooters.

CoD4:MW really stands out for me. In particular, I really loved the 2 player co-ops missions. They were great fund in that you could play with another person but not deal with the douchbaggary that always ensues when you get 32+ people playing the same game. My favorite was the AC130 mission where one guy is on the ground trying to escape an the other is providing overhead cover. It was always an awesome site to see a 105mm round dropped in front of my face but not kill me.

I played it (COD4 MW) last night because of your post. I forgot how much fun that game was/is.

Thanks!

I'd have to agree. COD4 is still a favorite of mine. Heck I just played the single player mode the other day...

Rift2

You guys need to try Warface FTP Crytek game it's awesome because everyone hate the game =)

JosephColt

It's pretty much generic run of the mill shooter. Nothing worthwhile.

Ghost XFX

Congratz, UBIsoft. Your ineptness caused Ghost Recon to be forgotten by many gamers...

Yeah. The terrorist hunt mode on the ealiest GRs were ridiculously fun. Especially the earliest installments, where baddies didn't just spawn behind you and their bodies didn't disappear.

Have to agree with your choice of COD4 Modern Warfare. It was a great game when it came out. Also glad to see MOH and Day Of Defeat on your list too. Way too much time lost on those titles over the years.

BF 1942 was the one that started it all for military shooters. It literally created a genre and should be in pretty much every gaming website "Hall of Fame."

Although a futuristic military shooter, I'm enjoying the hell out of Titanfall. Doesn't have whacky, far-out sci-fi weapons, but the type you would see on most modern battlefields today (or soon to be).

Medal of Honor Allied Assault was released before Battlefield 1942, so technically MOHAA started it all.

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Battlefield 1942 was a lot of fun....until EA stopped supporting it and cheating got totally out of control. I think that was just a couple of months after release, actually.

avatar

severnia

thats just EA for ya, abandon one game 6 months after it luanches because the next one came out... Im really not sure why they have repeatedly been voted 'worse company in america' by consumers...

Even some of the *largest* video games ever created (the ones with sales in the hundreds of millions of dollars) have very little control over cheating.

Everything from the cheated leaderboards to large scale in game cheats takes place frequently and daily.
