I have not been able to put down Dead Trigger 2 since it's release. The varied game-play makes me forget how derivative the title is. Madfinger Games keeps it fresh with constant updates & free DLC. I never thought I'd like a grinder. One of the IAP's is actually appealing.

-Playing on the Shield is a no-brainer.

Beach Buggy Blitz for a decent cruisin usa style racerit's kool to pass the time w/.

Vendetta Online was great w/ a controller, and you play against all platforms in one space, though they just kinda messed up their subscription model IMHO

No mention of Hero Academy? It's the best grid based strategy I have played on mobile. Also, I love that i can play it on Steam when im at home.

Some good games in here and a couple I did not know existed which I will have to grab at some stage. Another couple I would suggest is Raiden Legacy and Metal Slug, I use to love both these series in the Arcade and they are very easy to pick up and play when you are filling in time. However a controller makes the experience much more satisfying as I find the touch controls can get quite annoying.

Finally I would strongly recommend "into the dead", quite a novel take on the whole zombie apocalypse shooter and gets more addictive the more you play.

Kingdom Rush Frontiers and Plants vs Zombies 2 are excellent games, and I hope a try a few from this list. But my #1 time waster has been The Simpsons Tapped Out. BF4 Commander is basic, but playable if you need your BF4 fix regularly, Subway Surfers is still the slickest runner IMO and Team 17 did a great job on Worms 2 Armageddon.

Marvel Puzzle Quest. Bejeweled-style gameplay with progression mechanics and "superpowers" that mix things up quite nicely. Interesting story mode with replayable missions. Very polished and high production quality. F2P/freemium.

Gun Club 3. It's not one of those stupid "gun porn" psuedo-apps you see all the time that exist only as money grabs. This is an actual game with challenging pop-up target ranges, a sniper play mode, dailies, even a zombie mode, (cardboard zombies, of course). Interesting weapon customization features that actually make a noticeable difference in gameplay and aren't too grindy to obtain. F2P/freemium.

I tried to get into android gaming, but for me, the best games are SNES games emulated. Good gameplay and not so harsh on battery life.

Pen and Paper RPG is, in my opinion, better than any of the 20 games on this list.

My problem with app games are permissions. Why does a single-player puzzle game need access to networks, wifi and network information, access to contact lists, billing, etc. Far too many apps have inappropriate permissions. Haven't checked these yet but...

I am on the free app of the day from amazon and I only actually get maybe one a week due to permissions. And ironically, some of those even CHANGE their permissions after the FAOTD is over. Go figure.

Doesn't matter how 'benign' it is, my portable device has my vital information on it. I'm very very careful about what else is allowed on it. No game is worth data penetration issues.

I agree. Some permissions, like "access phone state", I can understand though the info that the developers and the Android market itself gives us about the particular permissions and why the app needs them is too vague.

I really wish that Android let us select which permissions we want to give an app; Android needs the "line item veto".

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that my HannsPad 10.1 plays Dead Trigger 2 extremely well, it's unbelievable. I didn't know this game, so i'm also pleasantly surprised that it's free (for the most part).

Thank you MPC!

I enjoy these lists. Trying to find good games in the Play store is too difficult. I think they should allow you to specify an age range. It seems like all the top picks are games that appeal to 12 year old boys.

Mobile gaming still hasn't won me over. Mostly it's fine if I'm sitting in a waiting room or on a train, but if I have a choice of sitting on my phone or tablet vs sitting at my desk or couch PC, I'm always going to go PC. For me, the best PC games are 5 stars while the best mobile games are 3.

I like how they listed Clash of Clans on here, but the superior game is castle clash. Its a very similar game but they add heroes and its a much better game.

I've always wanted to try Syberia but I heard its res. is stretched out for mobile. Anyone have it? I know its an old game but I wonder how its textures are compared to PC.

The point-'n-click adventure game?

avatar

smashingpumpin

No, its the one by Rovio where you flick automatons from a giant slingshot.

So not the one where I got stuck at the Soviet space station because the game devolved to "adventure game anti-logic" to solve a puzzle, as well as having to make the main character, if memory serves, awkwardly call her mother to ask her about her paramour?

That infernally useless tin man on the train irked me, I'd consider it justice to throw him, or his fellow automatons, into oblivion with a giant slingshot :)

Were the San Andreas graphics that bad on the console? Surely our tablets and phones are capable of more.

Clash of Clans runs really hokey TV commercials. I'm surprised to see it here, somehow. Combined with the news that Nintendo is planning on doing something with the phone/tablet market I'm still waiting for an Advance Wars TBS.

...why aren't there more classic TBS games on Android? An RTS, w/o a keyboard would end up being Halo Wars 2.0 (which I guess isn't that bad) but I thought that Android would be teeming with TBS and RPGs of high regard, yet it doesn't seem like it.

The one game I have spent more time on then I would like to admit is Hill Climb Racing. I highly suggest you give it a try if you have not yet.

Yup, good game.
