If you're a fan of BF series or simply a FPS fan, you'll buy this game down the road regardless of Origin! As a Steam fanboi and a disgruntled Beta player, I was reluctant at first but Black Friday Sale ultimately sealed the deal for me and glad I took the plunge (as If Steam didn't spoil me already and taught me how to be frugal lol).

There's no such thing as "Digital Store Loyalty" within fanboyism on certain genres or franchises. Plain and simple, IMO these commenters aren't planning to buy it in the first place, or are just not into FPS games, or "Objective-Team-based-Modern Shooters" in general. Read the reasons on my post below and why I despise Origin and yet still bought BF3.

Origin may not be flawless like Steam, but like the review says, it gets the job done. That's all that matters right? I'm also glad ME3 would be available outside Origin despite Steams exclusion.

Ah yes, the proof is in the pudding. Another reason I won't buy or play this game. The maturity (not age) level of the players in the game. MY evidence is in the wording of the posts. Those of us who don't want to play or have problems are: stupid, morons, gay, crybabies and so on. The typical answers when immature, undereducated, unintelligent players can't come up with logical, intelligent responses to valid claims.

avatar

Jono

right... I remember when the early CoD fans were bashing the maturity of Halo fans touting their "adult" community but now look at the game. It's all the same crowd. Battlefield 3 was the CoD to Halo but when a game gets popular, you can't stop the migration!

Rather than complain about Origin, Battlelog, and whatever else is thrown out there, I still won't touch BF3 in any way due to the fact that 99.9% of players during the Beta camped like a bunch of wussies. Probably I'm over-exaggerating the number of campers during the Beta but it certainly felt that way. Now I'm pretty much an FPS novice but at least I have the capability to get a few kills here and there, but going consecutive matches where I was 0-for (as in ZERO KILLS) really pissed me off to no end. Probably the number of campers have cut down since the release but I'm still staying away from this game no matter what.

I love this game, but I have been neglecting it for months now. When Skyrim came out I was trying to juggle both but it wasn't possible!

My biggest beef with BF3 is the way it launches via web browser and all the problems it caused. Most of the time it didn't launch correctly or would load me into a frozen game or black screen. Want to switch modes? Gotta log out and relaunch the game. Maybe it's been fixed since I last played it? It would also be nice if you could switch load outs and customizations in between games so you're not wasting precious time.

Other than that it's awesome! I love sneaking up on tanks and slapping on some C4!

Game is AMAZING!!! I loved the BF series up to BF2. From then on I was a little disappointed because it seemed like they were giving the PC the cold shoulder. With BF3, they put PC as their main priority. One of the best multiplayer games I have played in a long time. Now, just have to upgrade my 5870 for better frames.

avatar

T0mmy1977

My 5870 runs the game just fine.

I would like to see your review of Modern Warfare 3 Mr. Scharff. I know Battlefield 3 wasn't perfect, I played the game and would get very mad at the AI, cause as you said they would push you out of the way and pretty much trap you sometimes to leave you to die. It was relatively annoying at that part. The game play I found on single was fun. The game did feel really linear at times. I lost touch with the story not even a quarter of the way through the game, but then again who plays a FPS for the story? Isn't it all about shooting people in the face?

I actually finished this game though, however on MD3 I played about 30 minutes and I was done with it. I felt BF3 was a vast improvement from BC2.

The thing is with games that are franchised, you can't buy them EVERY YEAR and expect a great deal of improvements. They're all just putting out the same crap over and over again in a different package. I do enjoy my games don't get me wrong, but I would surely love to see some innovation in the gaming platform. Gaming has been stagnant for some time now. We just buy the same crap for the past decade. It's getting old.

I will continue to claim that Battlelog is one of the best and most innovative features that has hit an FPS title in a long while.

It's heads and tails over an in game server browser. It's faster, easier to navigate and more refined and intuitive than any multiplayer UI I have come across.

I'm always surfing anyway, so not having to launch a separate application to jump into one of my favorite games is awesome. I can watch a Z11 Helicopter pwnage video, click on my Battlelog bookmark and be in game in less than a minute to try it out for myself.

avatar

jnwoll

totally agree, the Battlelog makes this game a standout and in a good way.

Just shut up and play the f'n game. All your arguments against are the lamest I've heard. "I have to log into 2 places... waaah..." Really? Omg. People will bitch about anything. Just tell the truth. You can't afford the game and find excuses to "not buy it", lol.

This was a very well put together game in all aspects. "Origin's stealing my personal data!!!111" Lol, Nimrod. Good to see you're still a whiny dick. Stick to CS:S raging dumb@ss.

avatar

Danno25002

EA could mail out $100 bills to all of it's Origin/BF3 users and many of them would bitch about how they were folded.

avatar

pplrcrybabies

I completely agree. People like to complain about everything little thing nowadays. EA isn't stealing data, they are pirating it, they are just making a copy of it. Which is OK with many people here.

avatar

T0mmy1977

Just like people, no game/software is perfect. I find the game to be very enjoyable.

avatar

logicmaster2003

I owned both BF1943 and BF2 - I enjoy these because:
1) you only login ONCE (online menu within the game)
2) you get gazillions of FREE DLC, mods, maps
3) server list are within the game

I refuse to buy BF3 even if its just $1 because:
1) you have to login on multiple places (origin, ea)
2) no community mods/maps
3) to join server you HAVE TO fire up a web browser

if BF3 follows the BF2's footsteps, I don't mind even shelling out $80 for it !

avatar

firefox91

The irony here is these comments coming from someone that calls himself "logicmaster".

avatar

Nimrod

the jets dont have bombs so wtf is the point exactly? maps are smaller than in 1942 also.

avatar

kixofmyg0t

THEY DO TOO! I slap C4 on every jet I see and wait for teammates to hop in so I can kill them.

Oh Gawd I LOVE teamkilling. Best part of the game. I got it for PC just for that purpose.

avatar

Mortal_M

They do have bombs, you just need to unlock them, but they are not dumb bombs.

But I will tell you this, IMO I think that BF 1942 and the first Vietnam had the most fun aircraft gameplay.

avatar

TommM

I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. It got off to a rough start, but I didn't even log on until it had been out two weeks. Pretty much standard SOP these days with games - especially multiplayer games.

Those who are using Origin and Battlelog whines as excuses not to play the game really don't want to play it to begin with. It's the current state-of-the-art shooter, plain and simple.

bling581

"Those who are using Origin and Battlelog whines as excuses not to play the game really don't want to play it to begin with. It's the current state-of-the-art shooter, plain and simple."

Yep. I really really dislike it, but it's just a minor part of the game. I don't understand people that won't touch a game just because it's only on Origin, or won't have anything to do with Steam.

avatar

Mortal_M

Yeah, you get used to Battlelog and after a while you don't mind it at all. It's not perfect but it's not that bad.

The same goes for all the little thing that fans who have been playing since the first BF came out don't like about BF3 but after a while I just stopped caring about that and started enjoying the game the way it is.
It's a shame though, they got a lot of really good feedback in the forums, if they somehow where able to use it all it would have been the perfect game.

Origin and the associated install process was bad. I had DirectX errors that took me an hour to figure out before the game would install. And no, this was not specific to my system. A ton of people had this problem. Origin is just a bad interface. You would think if they were trying to move in on Steam's market they would do a better job with their client program. Speaking of Steam, it is a thinly veiled money grab by EA to not make this available for Steam. They simply wrote their own policies so that the programs can't be used on it. That is the only reason.

As for the game itself, well it is awesome. I love everything about it once you get start playing it. I even thought the single player was good. You still have problems with hackers, but it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Some people are simply really good at the game or just have better hardware. But hackers are still present. The nice thing is that it isn't hard to report that person to Dice for review. I did this just the other day. I'd say MaxPC got the score right on this one. I too give it a 9.

avatar

The Corrupted One

People are obviously going to list Origin for their reason for pirating the game.

And
here
we
go....

avatar

dgrmouse

EA has publicly stated that they are not certain that the terms of use in their Origin license are legal. I'm quite certain that the terms of the Punkbuster software are illegal. I could see giving this a go on a console, but there is no way I'm going to subject my personal computer to this software. If you're willing to do so, you obviously either haven't read the EULA or you are willing to put an unreasonable amount of trust in strangers (who do happen to want your money and personal data for profit) to do the right thing.

avatar

Baer

Origin?, I will pass!! (Nuff said)

avatar

Danthrax66

This game fucking sucks, and no mod support. MW3 is pretty much the same as the last game. And the new CS isn't out yet. Shitty season for FPS games.

avatar

Honestly, everyone is making so big of a fuss over the Battlelog. Your all afraid that its something different from Steam. One plus side that Battlelog has over Steam is that its much more public. You don't even need an account to brag to other people about your stats. You can stalk other people too a lot easier and see which games they are in. This is useful if you want to play with celebrities or just want to knife the game devs to get their dogtags :D Joining a game is the same as with any other game basically. You click on the game you want to join, and you have a wait time until you join, LIKE ALL OTHER GAMES.

However here are some of the bad things I consider about battlefield:
- its impossible to create your own server, you can only rent servers
- its impossible to change your settings unless you are actually in a game, so if you want to tweak your settings, you'll be essentially sitting in a game doing nothing which may lead to a kick.
- and battlelog could have more options for joining games, such as not joining a game at the very last second just so you can lose.

avatar

Danthrax66

BF3 is the same game as BC2 with a little better graphics and battlelog which is kind of stupid. This game is uninspired rehashed bullshit.

avatar

smashingpumpin

I used to have a mindset like yours, then I get my shit pushed out!

Joking aside, I used to think that way on Beta days. Most bugs were fixed from the dreaded Beta (It was so terrible at some point I thought I'd just pass on this game entirely this year, heck I was a Steam fanboi anyways but thank you Black Friday!) when my thoughts of false assumptions of a rehashed BC2 has dwindled from the following awesome features:

-Jets, parachutes, flashlights etc. etc. Tons to do and unlock compared to BC2.

-Supressive fire. This thing makes it a bit tactical. Glad to see this feature akin to fun Source mod Insurgency!

-Efficient Gfx. I can't stress this enough as the game runs smoothly and still looked Oh so beautiful on the lowest video setting with everything turned off!

The lighting in this game is "next-to-nothing" with eye-catching shadows all around. The only thing BF3 misses is some Vegatation Physics ala Crysis 1 but that's just asking too much.

-Balanced. Soflam+Javelin made "hell-by-air-nerds" almost nonexistent post BF2.

I also love that you could Filter out "Spotting"(why is this UAV crap even a feature, it should be inclusive to vehicles-only especially with KillCam on IMO) and "third Person vehicle Cams" on Battlelog since Vehicles are intentionally overpowered.

Bullet-sponge seems to be gone as enemies are killed by fewer shots compared to BC2 (cough, BC2 Medic sprays, cough)

Knifing in this game should be the de facto in future modern shooters. The animation is so good and convincing that at one time I almost jumped out of my chair in suprise when bursting rounds on enemies in front of me when all of a sudden, BAM lol.

Taken as a whole, I agree to this game's rating with an absence of a KA award just coz of Battlelog and Origin being clumsy as Dan already mentioned. I remember recently how I tried to communicate with a friend only to minimize BF3 and dig in a couple of menus to just to find his messages. Heck it's so cumbersome, you're better off sending a friend messages on Squad chat.

Now for the the other Cons...

Unlike Steam, Origin didn't allow me to pause my download and start at an appropriate time. Incomplete files that were downloaded are gone on PC reboot and you are forced to start all over again. (Is this updated BTW?)

Gravatar? Seriously? Heck Id rather trust Steam for posting my real picture for an Avatar than this.

...and obcourse the QTE-filled, humdrum singeplayer.

BTW for those still having erratic mouse aim "Post Raw Mouse Input Off", try turning "Enable Origin in-game" off. YW!

Well jerking off never gets old right? =)

I love battlefield. I've been playing since 1942. Then Vietnam, BF2, BC2, and now BF3.

avatar

HiGHRoLLeR038

thats the same with any series/sequel. if they were to completely redesign the game, it would be called something else.

avatar

Nimrod

yeah like mario. Mario3 was different than mario1 and that why it was called Tetris instead

I find the ever present BattleLog a PITA. Why does a non browser game HAVE to open my browser? The Origin client is, as you say, unremarkable and unnecessary. It intrudes on my gaming experience just by being there and opening the browser. I have not purchased this game, but I did play the beta. The two reasons I have mentioned are the two things stopping me from buying the game.

avatar

std error

Sorry if the world isn't always the way you want it to be. But if you just accept its faults you'll find that there is a lot of fun to be had playing the game.

avatar

HiGHRoLLeR038

yea both you and ashinms have really bad excuses. ashinms needs to get his shit fixed. and we all know origin sucks, but battlefield does not.

avatar

Nimrod

i guess if your stupid enough to think you need an extra app to open firefox then yeah you might be stupid enough to think BF3 is grate. Truth be told Origin is spyware and reads your entire hard drive and sends to to some adver company in cali. and your a moron!

avatar

DJ_Smoke

HAHA! nimrod strikes again! he spells great grate then calls another poster a moron...
not that it matters, but you don't need to launch bf3 from origin, you just open your browser, i have battlelog set as my home page on my gaming rig...
of course origin is still running in the background..

avatar

stinkypeepers

probably the stupidest excuse to not buy a game. stop being a cry baby and buy it already.
