AVADirect Creates a Quiet Riot with Low Noise X79 Gaming PC

Paul Lilly

Everybody and their uncle is hot to trot with Intel's X79 platform, and that includes boutique system builder AVADirect. Most of the systems we've seen have been geared towards balls-to-the-wall performance, which definitely tickles our fancy, but so does the idea of a silent or low-noise PC build on top of Sandy Bridge-E. For about $1,900 and change, AVADirect says you can own one.

AVADirect's Silent Gaming PC is one of several new desktops the system builder offers that feature the X79 chipset (the other two being a ' CrossFireX Custom Gaming System ' and a ' Performance Custom Computer '). The base configuration includes:

  • NZXT H2 Classic Silent mid-tower chassis
  • Intel Core i7 3930K processor
  • MSI X79-GD65 motherboard
  • Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950 graphics card
  • 8GB of Kingston DDR3-1600 memory
  • Seagate 1TB Barracuda HDD (SATA 6Gbps, 7200 RPM, 32MB cache)
  • Sony 24X DVD burner
  • 65-in-1 media card reader
  • Seasonic X-650 modular power supply
  • Custom wiring with rounded cables

AVADirect's pitch is that it uses "high-end brand parts and handpicked components...while keeping those decibels to nearly whisper quiet levels." No easy task, but one we'll gladly watch system builders attempt to tackle.
