I like that they have a 500 gig HD option. That turns this tablet into a nice little portable workstation. However, the 2 gigs of RAM still troubles me. 4 gigs of RAM really should be the baseline for any Windows machine, even if it's just a tablet.

These first model is a fairly decent tablet hybrid. The ability to run legacy Windows software is HUGE (Photoshop CS3, Autocad, etc.). Combined with the connectivity options (USB3, Micro-USB, Micro-HDMI), this tablet continues to make the iPad look like the child's toy that it is. (A well-built and well marketed toy, but a toy just the same).

Realistically, would Photoshop CS3 or Autocad (recent versions) be usable on a Atom?

I'm not so sure about recent versions of AutoCAD, and much will depend on how complicated the drawing is. Photoshop CS3 runs just fine, quite honestly. A number of Steam games (Portal, Portal 2) run pretty well too.

You'll not see i5 performance, but it's a tablet, it's dirt cheap, it has an incredible battery life, and it does an awful lot of mundane stuff I'd otherwise use a full-blown laptop for. 'Don't need much horsepower for most things most folks do (Netflix, Pr0n, Facebook, more Pr0n).

If you were running them on relatively low end hardware back in 2006, then that should give you an indication.
