Why should I want M2 in a desktop?

its an ssd on 2-4 PCI express pipes, so thats kinda a stupid question.

m2 ssds or pcie ssds in general will blow away all sata drives and approach raid 0 ssd speeds soon

Why not keep on using PCIe for SSDs?

I've seen that the new M.2 drives for desktop (adapted for PCIe) still use AHCI so full performance gains aren't to be had for some time. :(

Wouldn't it still be useful if your expansion slots are all populated, or being covered by a dual slot card?

So I have a ASUS Z77 manual at my desk, and a Z87 manual. I guess I will need to get the Z97 manual as well.

Paul, please make a note that this board is a BUDGET version of the Z97 chipset. For instance, there are only 4 SATA ports with two more in the SATA express. The ASUS Sabertooth Z97 has 8, with two possible SATA Express ports.

Ha ha! Made me laugh. Waiting for DDR4 or something else?

avatar

captainjack

It seems like it would be wiser to wait for DDR4 at this point if you're looking for a new motherboard.

I wonder what will be the board to tempt me away from my Rampage IV Black and when?

Gordon said don't get caught up in the upgrade Treadmill but it's a hard habbit to break! Have yet to go Intel for a Build but own Pentiums back in 1998-2002
