I have been looking at the previous model , the ASUS G550JK Gaming Notebook G550JK-DB71-CA which is still available...

I will be moving closer to the end of november and cannot take my desktop computer with me to play the upcoming Warmachine Tactics...

I like the specs of the older one and this one, though from what i can see there is not much difference between the two... newer graphics chip.

Until they stop using those asinine one piece touchpads I can't enjoy the laptop as a whole.

Easiest solution is to buy a mouse...

I have to agree with Innomasta. I have a mouse, but there are plenty of times I use the touchpad. Not having physical left/right buttons annoys me.

Meh, I'm sorry, but "gaming" notebooks just aren't worth it.

If you're looking for the best price/performance ratio and raw performance, then yes, it makes no sense to get one.

But if you need performance and mobility, they're a great option. Especially since lugging around a desktop and monitor gets old after a while of doing it. Or if you travel via plane.

I think they are. I have a gaming laptop and desktop. The laptop is used more frequently. I do reserve single player, higher end games for the desktop, but most of my gaming is social. It is awesome being able to put it all in my backpack and take it wherever. Setup is quick and much less of a hassle.

I think they are. I get a lot of use out on my Qosmio. I have a Gaming PC upstairs, but I don't want to be a shut in, hiding in my office ignoring my wife and kid, so a gaming laptop lets me still spend time together while they watch terrible tv shows without making me want to kill myself.

I guess if I wanted to be a basement dwelling troglodyte again, I wouldn't need one, but some people like playing games, AND going outside and moving more than 5 ft from their desk.
