If you've shopped for used PCs, you know that the question of whether the Windows operating system installed is licensed or an illegal copy is more important than ever, thanks to Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage compliance checking in Windows XP SP2. Microsoft is now using its Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) program to provide low-cost licenses for Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional to companies that refurbish computers as well as tools for quickly installing licensed versions of Windows on multiple computers. The MAR program is aimed at companies that have averaged 5,000 PCs or notebook computers or more per month for the last 12 months.

Animated Desktops for More vista Versions With DeskScapes 2.0

Stardock, which teamed up with Microsoft to roll out the DreamScene animated wallpapers for Windows Vista Ultimate, now offers animated wallpapers to Windows Vista Business and Home Premium users as well, ZDNet Microsoft blogster Mary Jo Foley reports. Demand for the free beta version of DeskScapes 2.0 is so high this evening to make connecting to Stardock's website a sometime thing. The final versions will be available by February 2008.
