Hi there!

By now, you've probably noticed that we've made some changes to the site. By my count, this is the sixth major redesign for MaximumPC.com since we first launched the magazine, way back in 1998. Looking back at some of our past designs, we've learned from our past mistakes. Beyond the obvious beautification project, we've made a ton of deep-down structural changes--stuff that makes it simple for us to bring you the type of no-holds-barred content you expect from Maximum PC.

Before you get your knickers in a twist, rest assured we've kept everything that was already awesome about the site intact. We've got the podcast, the magazine archive, the Best of the Best, and yes, the forums--in all their boisterous glory. None of the stuff you love has gone anywhere, we just laid on a few coats of paint.

But wait, there's more! We've also added a ton of great new features and content. For one, there are the editors' blogs (psst, that's what you're reading right now). Everyone on staff has a dedicated section to talk about whatever's on his or her mind. We've also opened up the blogs to a few select members of our community. I'll be introducing them over the next few weeks, but you can expect them to talk about all sorts of cool stuff--from modding to Linux to games. Expect lots of rowdy, no BS coverage of, well... whatever we think is interesting and cool.

I want to bestow some seriously mad props on our Kick Ass web team, who not only made the whole site work (and look awesome), but also added dozens of technical pieces of flair--things like per-category RSS feeds (look for the little icon in Firefox's address bar), an awesome fuzzy search algorithm (be sure to try it!), and a single sign-in system with our forums. That's right, when you log in to the forums, you're ready to post a comment on any article on the site. We love to hear your feedback, and now you can let us hear it on every single page of MaximumPC.com.

I'm really excited about the new site, and I hope you will be too. Please make yourself at home, dig into the editors' blogs, read a few features, do a mini-DIY project, and then let me know what you think by posting in the comments below or in the forum thread.

Addition (3/28/2007 4:00 PM) If you're having trouble logging into the forums, try deleting your cookies for maximumpc.com. That seems to be helping people who are having trouble.

avatarIf you're having problems logging into the forums,

We're working on the forum login issues, but we need your help.

First, clear all the cookies on your machine with maximumpc.com in them. In Firefox, you do this by going to Tools, Options, Privacy, and clicking show cookies. Search for maximumpc and delete all the cookies that show up. Then clear your cache, and restart your browser. That should help you log in.

If you're still having problems, send me an email (my address is will at maximumpc dot com) with your username and I manually reset your account. There are some problems with users who have invalid characters in their username.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

///Will

avatarNew MaximumPC.com Format

Dear Will,
Love the new look. As always, your online magazine stands out as an invaluable and reliable resource, bar none, and especially to those of us looking for sound advice on component selection.

My concern is this: Typically your "Best of the Best" list consists of an up-to-date comprehensive list of computer hardware components PC Mag considers the best available, sometimes broken down into sub-catagories. Many of us rely on this list for sound upgrade decisions. Please bring this comprehensive list back to your site. Current form is incomplete.

3 years ago, I called you at PC Mag, before you were in charge, asking for advice on ASUS/ABIT motherboard selection. We had a great 15 min discussion. Your sound advice and generosity was appreciated then, as it is now with every issue. Congrats on your continuing success.

This is awesome guys! I really like what you've done with the place. It's not a couple of coats of paint, it like going from a trailer (not that the old site sucked by any means) to a mansion!

This new MaxPC website is pretty cool, too, I suppose. ;-)

Congrats Will!

avatarVery cool how the website

Very cool how the website integrates with our forum accounts. Now, if you only archived my post about the G-Force team (from the animated series) giving their thoughts about NVIDIA's GeForce naming convention, I'd be a happy man.
