Download of the Week: Right Click Context Menu Extender
Hot on the heels of my "5 Add-ons That Make Windows Explorer Even Better" article comes the appropriately named utility Right Click Context Menu Extender. It's a recent addition to the freeware world--as in, it was launched five days ago--yet the program shows a surprising amount of prowess for its relative infancy. As for what the little application actually does, you can probably figure out the general context by its name alone. The specifics, well, there's the real kicker.
Install the utility to your system and you'll suddenly unlock a wealth of configurable extensions to your average Windows right-click menu. These are split off into two categories: right-click context options that work in your standard Windows Explorer interface and right-click menu options that only come about when you've performed that activity on the desktop itself. As to what different kinds of features have been unleashed in your day-to-day PC use, here's a brief overview:
Windows Explorer
- Copy / Move to
- Administrative Command Prompt (opens to the folder)
- Encryption/Decryption
- Hide File/Folder
- Take Ownership
Desktop
- Flip Windows 3D Switcher
- Control Panel shortcut
- Administrative Tools shortcut
- Registry Editor
- Desktop God Mode
Even better, you can specify which options show up in each right-click menu using the application's super-simple configuration menu. That's it. While this isn't the kitchen sink of right-menu context options, nor can you add any that aren't already specified by the program, Right Click Context Menu Extender provides a simple way for increasing the power of your middle finger in a manner that's pleasing to all.

Each week, Maximum PC picks a new free or shareware download as its favorite of... the week. Have a nifty application that you can't live without? Twitter David Murphy @acererak with your latest suggestions.

The problem with adding things to the right click menu is that it has been known to foul things up where it is missing items or some no longer function or adds lag to the right click menu. I mean it's nice to have a huge right click menu rather than just have things on any other one of a thousand menus available but if your waiting a few minutes for the menu to show up is it really worth it ?
An example of function, MagicIso use to have a right click function that would hose using right click explorer in the start menu.

there's been 1 since Windows 95 by StarDock that was originally called the same thing then shortened to just 'RightClick' for the XP version then did away with it because of the Vista shift+rightClick trick
I smell legit patent infringement.
Windows7 you can already do all of this except whatever "desktop godmode" means & 't's tricky but possible to open command prompt @ a given directory
I only need 1 good way to do something with 1 or 2 back\hard\long ways for hardware or security emergencies
why do any of us need this..? especially if really was hijacked from SD

yeah because I pay less than $90 per year to get every utility I ever need as an upstart IT/computer-building business & gamer/enthusiast & the company has been a key player in NT Kernel platforms from the beginning not just Windows either
Impulse: the reason steam started having weekly discounts & sales
MyColors: the reason HP & Dell have theme customizable laptops etc.
these guys had a hand in the aero 2.0, the ribbon & a lot of the user customization in Windows
check them out

Can someone tell me why in all of the great maker's creation this took so long to come out?
I've been wishing for a feature like this since windows98!
This should have been a power toy, if not integrated into the OS itself. I just thank these people for finally making it. Wish it were better XP integrated. I'd really like to remove that annoying "send to" I've never used but keep hitting by accident.

What is 'Desktop God Mode', also, where is the link to the developer's site?

Well, God Mode does me no good as the one in the app seems to be for Win7 only, and I'm still on Vista x64. Although we do have a God Mode for Vista x64:
