Safari+Windows=Big Security Risk

Apple's Safari web browser, with its compass-styled logo, suggests the excitement of exploring the "unknown worlds" of the Internet. Unfortunately, you might discover the newest colony of a well-known continent, Malwaria, instead.

Friday, Microsoft rolled out a high-profile security advisory (953818) for Windows XP and Vista users who also use Apple's Safari browser. Microsoft refers to the security risk as a "blended threat," meaning that multiple methods of attack are performed automatically: in this case, Safari automatically downloads files without asking for your permission.

The workaround offered by Microsoft is to change the default location for downloads away from the current user's Desktop folder to a different folder, but Microsoft also recommends that users restrict use of Safari until either Safari itself or Windows is updated. To find out why you're better off not surfing with Safari for now, read on.

...temptation to devolve into *nix/MS/Mac - IE/Firefox fight fest.

If you work in a MS based corporate shop, IE just works with all the MS stuff. Firefox not so much. I've always run both. IE for the business stuff, Firefox for general surfing.

IE fully patched isn't that bad (GASP!). It may not have all the bells and whistles of Firefox and not quite as fast, but it works.

avatarMS/Safari Browsers ?

I just can't understand why people use IE or Safari browsers, when Firefox works on all platforms.

Acer Aspire 5610z,Vista HP, No problems with Vista... so far, but I'm learning Linux, just in case.

But if I Uninstall Safari how am I going to enjoy having that neato compass logo on my desktop? And lookie, IE doesn't have a compass logo on it. What am I going to do. Man this sucks.. God mac and MS are both evil. Mac for it's pretty Compass logo that I can't have anymore and MS for not providing a compass logo. Damn them. This is a conspiricy.
