Egg Head has Eggs Hurled at Head

Steve Ballmer has a habit of speaking candidly, a practice that carries the risk of ending up with egg on his face. That risk turned literal during a speech at a Hungarian university as a protestor accused Microsoft of stealing billions in Hungarian taxpayer money. The protestor then hurled eggs at the Microsoft CEO, none of which hit their target. Ballmer took the incident in stride, saying it was the first time professionally anyone has thrown eggs at him. Game On for AMD

AMD yesterday announced AMD GAME!, a new program intended to help consumers take the guesswork out of purchasing or building a PC capable of high definition gaming. According to AMD, systems based on the new initiative will sport a "balanced platform with matched and tested components that meet their needs." OEMs carrying AMD GAME! systems include Alienware, Cyberpower, IBuypower, Maingear, Velocity Micro, and others; retail availability is expected in the second half of 2008.

Feedback Changes in Effect

Ebay sellers were given a heads-up regarding changes to the auction site's Feedback system, and those changes are now in effect. Sellers can no longer leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers, a policy change Ebay hopes will "reduce any imbalance in the Feedback system." See here for a full list of changes.

Think Your PC is Buggy?

Worms and buggy code are one thing (or is that two things?), but "crazy rasberry ants" are giving Houston residents new meaning to the term 'buggy PC.' These newly recognized species of ants have a particular fondness for electrical equipment, including computers, and have ruined everything from sewage pumping stations to fire alarms. Worse yet, these pests appear to be resistant to over-the-counter ant killers. If you do manage to kill the ants, the survivors pile up the dead, sometimes using them as a bridge to cross safely over surfaces treated with pesticide. Hollywood, are you listening?

Intel Keeps 4-Wheelin'

According to a report on Chinese-language website HKEPC, Intel will introduce the Q9650 Core 2 Quad processor in Q3. Expect the Q9650 to cruise along at 3GHz on a 1333 frontside bus with 12MB of L2 cache, with bulk pricing expected to be $530. In the dual-core arena, Intel is expected to release the Core 2 Duo E8600, a 3.33GHz part on a 1333MHz FSB with 6MB of L2 cache. Along with the new chips, HKEPC also reports a handful of tantalizing price cuts:

• Q9550 (2.83GHz): $530 to $316
• Q6600 (2.40GHz): $224 to $203
• E8500 (3.16GHz): $255 to $183
• E8400 (3.00GHz): $183 to $163
