Ahhh, can't beleive I missed it. Thanks for pointing that out, Mr. Smith (is it ok if I call you Will :) )

avatar

feek

it just boggles my mind how someone can be offended by a word. a word not even directed at them.

Louis Cypher

I think it is as natural as it comes. The beeping was killing my beeping ears!

BTW where is the link to the download? I do not use Itunes so I just download the mp3. It has been MIA for the last two podcasts. I have to get it from digg!

Keep up the beeping good work.

I moved the download link to a button. It's the one labeled Audio MP3.

XRolando

What? Swearing? I din't even notice it!

You guys incorrectly prounced pwn. You said pone, it's correctly ponouced like spoon.

> You guys incorrectly prounced pwn. You said

It /IS/ pronounced "pone"... it's always been that way. Think about it. It was derived from the word "own", as in "I own you."

"pwn" is nothing more than a well known typo of the word "own" which got popularized in the "1337" speak world... so naturally it rhymes with "own"

I remember the whole “Kick Ass” award controversy from back in the days of BOOT. I lost then, and I’ll probably lose this time. I’m still subscribed to the mag and I probably will still subscribe to the podcast. However, I would much prefer not to listen to profanity. Sure, it’s not going to kill me to hear some casual swearing, but I’d just as soon not. Granted, a well placed expletive can help convey deeply felt emotion. Most of the time, though, your use of profanity is juvenile and unnecessary.

avatar

zine team279

All of the comments above are valid, but I do think that if the editors want to swear, they swear. I also believe that while the listeners view is extremely important, the editors should have some type of freedom. The overall census says to get rid of the bleeping. And, heck, even the MaximumPC Magazine has some cussing in it, yet no one ever criticized the professionalism. If you don't like the swearing, just tune out. A Ventrilo User myself, I've heard plenty worse in the day. Professional or not, if you are finding this to be a big deal, then there must be something wrong.

But like I said, its nothing to worry about. If it offends you, just don't listen. You shouldn't cancel your subscription, because of it; just don't listen. Pretend as it was never here. You will time-to-time here what the editors are talking about in the Podcast.

Its a word, and the podcast doesn't need to be standardized for all ages; its not public radio or T.V.

avatar

Tenacity

Ok honestly I thought that you guys were better than this.
I don't like the idea of censorship from without but I think that it is very important that each individual learns to censor themselves. You seem to be incapable of doing this.
This was an easy call and you totally blew it. You could have decided to error on the side of right but you chose to make the world a little less civil and do what you wanted to do. You have behaved just like a toddler that says 'I wanna do what I wanna do'. You were very immature and unprofessional.
I had to turn off the podcast because it became overtly offensive and I didn't want people to think that I was into that kind of thing. I have recommended your podcast to many but now I will have to go to each individual that I recommended it to and apologize.
In truth, you can do what you want to do but you won't be doing what you want to do on my time or with my money. Unless there is some kind of apology I will not be listening to any more podcasts or buying anymore magazines.
BTW This comment forum or email is not the way that you should decide right from wrong. If a fight is brewing how often do you hear the bystanders start chanting 'don't fight, don't fight' but you often hear 'fight, fight, fight.' Often times the person that is the loudest is overcompensating because they know that their opinion is incorrect.
This is one paying customer that has been left with a very sour taste in his mouth. I was given no warning about the nature of the podcast and for the first half or so I was impressed with your choice to not swear.
Teamspeak: I am 42 years old and I am often on teamspeak. I have never asked the 14 yr olds not to cuss but I treat them with respect and I have found that out of mutual respect they most often stop cussing around me. It is never discussed. Come to think of it that happens with ppl my own age also.
I am sure that you can find better ways to express yourself and honestly the rants have been fairly lame and about stuff that most ppl don't really care about. I think the 14 year olds like the rant because they are hoping that Gordon will help them to justify their 'I wanna do what I wanna do' attitude.
Ok so ... Now I have had my rant.
I hope you will change your mind. Please, if you do change your mind let us know in a public way so I won't have to take a chance with another podcast download that I will regret.
I agree offensive things happen but I don't want to be the offender and I don't want to be the person that is encouraging others to be offensive. That kind of logic is not logic at all. With that kind of logic it would be ok for a person to do, whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. We build prisons for those ppl. Just because one person does something wrong doesn't mean that we should encourage others to do the same. That is insane logic. Of course, this kind of logic is exactly why our elementary school yards are filled with that kind of language, and guns and drugs, etc.

avatar

Iceman

I say swear away.....and you guys are right...you will hear worse stuff in the elementary school yards....

avatar

Capt_Flapjack

If people don't want to hear cussing then they should lock themselves in their houses and never turn on the TV, listen to the radio, or talk to their neighbors. Basically, to avoid anything that may be offensive, those people should move to Tibet and live on a mountain. Offensive things happen. Being able to deal with it is part of functioning in American society.

avatar

Azewaldo

I'm a mature & professional computer enthusiast who's not bothered by language. Besides, now Jeremy doesn't have to spend his time bleeping stuff out.

avatar

mdawe1

i know your going to catch hell for the change but i am a big fan. it seems completely 'tarded to bleep a few colorful words... the main reason i listen to your podcast, and the pcgamer podcast, is to get to know the people behind the words on the shiny paper.

good luck
matthew

avatar

scottww

I want to get to kow the people behind the stories. Just a better way for us to better know yall.

avatar

BloOdymAN666

When Gordon uses the F word, happiness follows.

avatar

Packerfan1

While I don't mind an occasional f-bomb, I find it very unprofessional. To swear just because it's not FCC controlled and you can? Really mature and professional. Myself, and I'm sure many others can't and won't use that type of language around their customers. I can't believe that a very public company like yours finds this exceptable. I dropped the 1up podcast for this reason (they don't even have the decency to mark it explicit)and will drop yours also. I put alot of trust in you and your magazine and after listening to the last podcast it turned me off to both...

avatar

Deadp1xel

Anyhow it's now tagged as explicit in itunes.

avatar

SysAnalyst

I enjoy this new found explicit freedom. If you guys are concerned with losing listeners, create a separate edited, clean version for that one listener who wants to share the MPC podcast experience with their 4yo child. It's not really any more work than someone was doing originally.

avatar

Metallica77

Guys you have to go explict. If some of your listnerr have a problem tell them to go f*ck themselves, or you can make an explict/clean version. In other words make two RSS feads one explict one non explict. I believe the podcast will honestly be much better if you guys are allowed to speak freely rather than restrained.

avatar

Fugazi

Swearing is fine. It is a podcast, not a radio broadcast. Kids are exposed to much worse in their daily sessions of counter-strike. Keep up the great work, some really useful info. Whoever had the idea to make a Maximum PC podcast, bravo.
-Andy

avatar

SE_Michigan

If your intented audience is only high school kids and drop out, then continue using the words you have been bleeping.

If you want professionals and others to listen then don't use the words to begin with.

I sometimes think the person who uses those words casually uses them as a crutch when they cannot think of something intelligent to say.

avatar

crono

Censorship is an important aspect of our society and yet I hate all forms of it. Is this because I'm an adult and have moved past the phase in my psychological development where I'm influenced by everything I hear? Is it because censorship is inexorably molding all mediums of entertainment into bland, gray porridge that even goldey locks would puke up? Perhaps. Whatever the reason for my disdain for censorship maybe it doesn't effect the truth . Which is that the podcast is simply better now. Keep up the good work.

avatar

Jeffery

While I don't necessarily enjoy the cursing, all good censorship starts and ends at home. Gordon is right; this is the internet, and I can choose to listen to something else if it becomes to much for me. Of course, if I had it my way, it would be edited. However it is not, and I can't fight it in principle. So, curse your brains out if you feel it will add flavor to your podcast.

avatar

ponchato

So much more life in the rants now. Good job going explicit!

I am deeply enraged over your masturbatory use of foul language.

My moral ground has been forever tarnished. So was the shock whilst listening to your innately obscene podcast,
my very computer shook in fear. May the Lord have mercy on your souls.
Peace. ;)

Theowningone

^^^ WTF?? Is it like against his religion???^^^
^^^ Some one has issues^^^

avatar

feek

the podcast is now better than ever. the bleeps were distracting, and it's more entertaining now that you're not holding anything back.

they're just words. people need to get over it.

great podcast.

avatar

zine team279

I know that I enjoyed the Non-bleepingness. Gordon could finally cuss without being confined! Personally, I enjoy the non-bleepingness. I think it makes the podcast more legit. It is the internet, and we shouldn't really be confined. I believe it was the FCC that is censoring the real AM/FM Radio. Not sure about XM, since that is technically internet, also. I do think that something should be done for people like juliothom011170 to can't really afford to listen to the non-censored podcast. I did notice that every last cuss, as far as I know, happened in Gordon's Rant. Maybe keep it like this, and its as simple as turning the volume down or just skipping over it.

Or, as I suggested last, keep a raw version, and keep a PG Version.

~Zine

Oh. And good rant. =) Sorry Gordon, but I do believe that Lemonade is a thing of the past. All the cool kids drink Mountain Dew.

avatar

scottww

Like Gordan, the fcc doesn't have any control over a pod cast. I think you guys should be able to say whatever you want to express your self. Also makes Gordans rant better.

avatar

Theowningone

"Also makes Gordans rant better."

Idk they're pretty good already. YAY Explicit Tag!!!!!!!

avatar

juliothom011170

I may be in the minority, but I saw the 13th issue had an "Explicit" tag on it.

I want to be able to have my 4 year old able to listen to what I listen to. I cannot deal with podcasts dropping F-Bombs every few sentences.

i have had to drop podcasts I really liked because I couldn't deal with the profanity.

Please do not keep the Explicit format. It isn't required for you to get your info out to people. If you stay Explicit, I'll have to drop your feed, and I don't want to have to.

avatar

D Waterhouse

You are in the minority. "Profanity" is an essential component of the spirit of the magazine. Your four year old is not the intended audience, nor is anyone requiring him to listen to it.
Buy a pair of headphones and stop proselytizing.
