No BS Podcast #99A: Funny Math
Posted 04/03/09 at 05:43:19 PM by The Maximum PC Staff
This is why we are technology writers and not mathematicians. After some careful calculations, we've discovered that we are actually still technically on the 99th episode of the No BS Podcast. That means that we have no choice by to save our 100th episode spectacular until next Friday. We sincerely apologize for the wait, but in the meantime, Will, Nathan and Gordon bring you another lengthy and informative Q&A session in episode 99A (and the return of Gordon's rant of the week). Your patience will be rewarded handsomely!
We also have come into posession of a ton of SteelSeries keyboards and headsets, speaker systems, and even more t-shirts to give away in our weekly Twitter contest. Be sure to sign up for @willsmith's feed to get in on the action.

was it me or did the guys do this podcast cause they felt they had to ? this episode was about as entertaining as watching windows defrag run (please note the sarcasum here) i enjoied the No BS Podcast #97: Logan's Run more than this episode at least they tried to have some plan for the episode . i really really really hope episode 100 is all that an then some , to make up for the abortion that was episode 99 A !! and if that wasnt bad enough gordons rant of the week was WEAK !!! the listeners have come to expect gordon bitching and griping about everthing (HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE THATS THE WAY WE LIKE IT !!!!) instead we had a calm dicussion because will and butters did not agree ??? now it might just be me but i thought it was the gordon mau ung rant of the week , not the try to change his mind dicuession of the week . oh well i really still love the podcast but if there is not at least a little plan in place before you start do us a favor and keep us waiting for another week for the good stuff .
like i said i love the podcast i was just disapointed with this episode . keep up the good work learning us all on all the things that make maximum pc MAXIMUM!!!
P.S. I think you guys should get drunk for one episode i think it would be hilarouis . it could be called No BS Podcast #101 -- the blame it on the alchaol edition !!! or a all rant edition where each podcast member got on the soapbox to do some ranting of their own . just a thought.
love you guys. in a non-gay way of course lol
On the Right Track…

I agree with all of this (especially the females… mmm… sexy female voices…), but with the condition that a audio-only version also be available. I listen to the podcasts while driving my route Mondays and my player doesn't support video. And it doesn't need to… I bought it for this specific purpose, along w/ a FM transmitter (Remember, kids… practice safe driving habits & don't text while driving!).
P.S. Oops! Somehow I clicked the wrong link. This was meant as a reply to 100th Episode Ideas

100th Episode Ideas

I posted this on the Episode 97 comments originally. Dave Murphy actually commented on it - I'm honored.
Alright. First, have everyone on. So that means:
- Gordon
- Will
- Norm
- Andy
- Tom E
- Nathan
- Alex
- Katherine - she hasn't been on in months
- Florence - OMG it would be two girls lol
- Any anyone else I've forgotten
Second, make it an hour and a half or so. Third, definetly make it a
video episode. That would be epic. Also, if you could get Dave
"TheMurph" Murphy and Jeremy Williams back, it would be sweetness.
Which podcast didn't count?
Submitted by winmaster on Sat, 04/04/2009 - 5:01pm
Which podcast did they say didn't count. They said it was the rants in the show, but there were two of them...Maybe they were each counted as a half...Or maybe the one where they had to rush out of the building didn't count.

Hey now back in the day

Hey now back in the day Windows Defrag was quite exciting to watch thank you very much. And scandisk actually had a visual front end so you could see what was going on. Again fun but not as exciting as watching all those squares move around on the screen,.
What I would love

I would love to see David Murphy and Jeremy on the 100th episode! Please, if you have the chance, get ahold of those two and bring the podcast back to it's former glory. Not that it isn't now, but I would love to see the original gangsters.
Tman.

The ad
Submitted by willsmith on Fri, 04/03/2009 - 5:20pm
Before you guys listen to this and get all in a huff, I want you to know that there's an ad in the show. It's 15 seconds long, and it guarantees that we'll continue being able to make the podcast for the indefinite future. I've always been a fan of doing the show, because it's a great way to connect with you our most loyal fans.
However, it's been increasaingly difficult to justify the time and money we spend making, editing, and distributing the podcast, when we're cutting all non-essential expenditures. The 15 seconds of your life that that commercial takes ensures that we'll be able to continue running the show.
So, if you like the podcast, and want to make sure that the show stays around, take a look at www.gotomeeting.com/maxpc and check out the software.
How about Sesame Street

How about Sesame Street advertisements like "This show was brought to you by the letter K and the number 8."

I thought the ad was fine - and if it means you can continue with the podcast, I could care less if you had 2 ads.
I read the comments before listening, and braced for lousy episode, I was pleasantly surprised though, I thought this was a very entertaining episode, Gordon's wrap around in the April 1st -> PHD/MD was brilliant. The conversation over the High Schooler trying to get past his schools proxy servers was perfect, and predictable.
I wonder if you guys would cover more 64bit news or if its not even worth it. (is everyone running 64 bit now, or is it just not that different)
I have looked for some benchmarking comparisons of Vista 32 vs 64 bit and am not finding much - I switched to 64 bit a few months ago and have been happy, but can't figure out if the machine feels faster because of the rebuilt, or because of the OS.
Thanks!

Hey Will, Keith again, I can handle commercial breaks. I hope you have at least one off the wall advertiser. Please oh please.
Ads are fine.
Submitted by winmaster on Sat, 04/04/2009 - 4:59pm
I don't mind the ads, but could you have metioned it in the actual podcast. I thought I was hearing things because it wasn't expected. Oh, and you should have Microsof Sam read the next ad. Just for a little humor.

I am more than elated to hear an ad on your Podcasts as to me it does guarantee to make it more worthwhile for you guys and for all of us in the long run!
I am used to hearing an ad or two and it would be even cool indeed if some could be done while you guys are podcasting. lol.
Just like Leo Laporte's Podcasts. http://www.twit.tv/Great work guys and congrats on getting gotomeeting.com as a sponsor!

Will in future podcasts can you do the commercials like the old time radio programs used to do commercials? Like don't forget to drink your ovaltine it'll grow hair on your chest. And like the chistmas commercials that pointed out "Hey children, remember that broken glass and knives are fun to play with. And do the Bob Barker thing about controlling the pet population by having your dogs and cats euthanized and don't forget to eat the meat.

No, the first thing was "What the fuck is this? an ad?"
Not that I care, I think people who use shit like adblock plus are pussies that need to grow the fuck up. Adverts aren't evil, and are helpful to average joe's website who needs the ad revenue.
talking about high schools
Submitted by pellier on Fri, 04/03/2009 - 4:17pm
talking about high schools locking down the network at my school this week we got our accounts changed so that we can't access our network drives which we need, install printers or access control panel but we have to install printers everytime we log in and internet was restricted even more than it was which means that we cant access email, streaming video/audio, can only read from flashdrives which we need for web design, and cant really do much. Theh theres is the kids who are the tech assistant who all tey really do is bug the IT guy and I can stilll fix more stuff than them(didn't know what web 2.0 is, havent heard of windows 7, couldn't boot off DVD drive) can do all that stuff becuase they have admin privleges. And the IT guy some how got a virus on the server this summer and it took a a smester and a half to get everything fixed after reimaging every computer about 4 times.
