No BS Podcast #118: We Welcome a Guest

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

This week, we welcome regular Maximum PC contributor Loyd Case to the show to chat with Gordon and Will about IDF, the sassy new Radeon 5870, and Intel's first Larrabee showing. After a too-short trip to the lab, we jump straight into reader questions, before closing with another installment of Gordon's Rant of the Week.

Do you have a tech question? A comment? A tale of technological triumph? Just need to get something off your chest? A secret to share? Email us at maximumpcpodcast@gmail.com or call our 24-hour No BS Podcast hotline at 877.404.1337 x1337--operators are standing by.

avatarWow

It was fantastic hearing Loyd Case on the show!  I really liked listening to extremetech and was dissapointed when they were cancelled.

What was really nice is that Loyd was a participant rather than the host.  My only complaint with the extremetech podcast was that he cut his fellow podcasters off fairly regularly.  (although sometimesit needed to be done)

Anyways, it would be great if MaxPC picked him up.

I have a 100ft CAT6 cable at home that works fine going from my router to my gigabit switch (all pc's connect fine through the switch). When I plug that cable directly into my Asus P5k-E  - no dice. Not even a light.

avatarLloyd Case - HIRE HIM NOW!

That was the best Podcast I've heard from MaxPC in years.  Lloyd Case lends serious credence and authority to a lot of the stuff you guys talk about.  I used to listen to him religiously on ExtremeTech.  I daresay I learned more from him on PC's than from MaxPC (I'm not a gamer and that's what you guys tend to focus 80% of the time on).

After Lloyd was let go from that other computer mag company filled with bozos and egomaniacs who offered nothing except their whiny off-base opinions, I was very sad and feared for the computer journalism industry.  I immediately stopped listening to their podcast, and buying their stupid magazine when he left.  You seriously need to consider hiring Lloyd!!!

Oh, and when are you guys going to list your podcast on the Zune Marketplace???  You promised that over a year ago with no results.  (All BS?)  I'm surprised Gordon hasn't ranted about your podcast only being on ITunes?

avatarWell now

I started a maximumpc.com account just to say this Will+Gordon+Lloyd+Andy=Win.  The expertise of the first 3 with Andy at the board was just hardware goodness.  I think the diversity of background of each and the different thought processes of each person was a winning combination.  I was listening to Lloyd when he was on Extremetech's podcast and have been listening to Maxpc's podcast since #1.  Extremetech's angle was always a little more in depth with the numbers while Maxpc's was filled with what I thought was a more elaborated thinking of what the numbers meant for the industry as a whole.  This combination is pure gold.  If you can bring in the other podcaster's like Norman and Nathan evenly from month to month to round it out, you have the best podcast hands down now.  Good work and thank the tech gods Lloyd is still in the scene.

avatarI noticed that this podcast

I noticed that this podcast doesn't show up in the ZUNE 4.0 software.  What does it take to get onto their list in the Zune marketplace?

I knew Loyd would show up on the podcast sometime since he's done lots of this kind of stuff before with Extremetech and DLTV.

Just an FYI, my HP Photosmart 8250 works just fine in Windows7, and I did not even have to do a driver search, it just installed.

avatarGood podcast as usual.  It

Good podcast as usual.  It is great to have Loyd on the podcast, and please bring him back for more!  Also, any chance you'd ever to a version of the podcast without the Rant of the Week?  I find it fairly boring, and not really all that interesting.  Hopefully you don't include any talk after it, since I just quit the podcast as soon as the Rant theme starts.

avatarI enjoy Rant of the week and

I enjoy Rant of the week and I think it sets it apart from other podcasts. Also a lot of the rants have some tech thrown in that makes one ponder and laugh.

avatarMore email audio questions!

You guys are awesome, but I guess the phone questions are easier to plug into the show.....it seems like you always pull the questions from there, and you probably have a backlog of email audio questions.  Three MORE weeks and I'll probably give up and record the question on the phone.
