YouTube Turns Six, Touts Own Awesomeness
Ah, Youtube. Thanks to you, we can't imagine an Internet without Old Greg, "All Your Base are Belong to Us" or Leeroy Jenkins. Youtube celebrated its sixth birthday today, and while the event was low key compared to the site's five-year anniversary mega-blowout-fiesta-extravaganza, the company tossed up a blog post with some numbers that show just how big our baby has grown. Unfortunately, the post doesn't list how many otherwise productive work hours have been lost to Rickrolls, but we estimate the number to be in the millions.
The numbers prove Youtube is huuuuuuuge. The blog claims that so far this year, over two days worth of video is uploaded by Youtube users each and every minute, doubling up on the upload rate from last year.
"Yeah, but who has time to watch all those videos?" we hear you asking. Apparently everybody. Time-wasters like us watch over 3 billion Youtube videos a day. "That’s the equivalent of nearly half the world’s population watching a YouTube video each day, or every U.S. resident watching at least nine videos a day," the blog notes, rubbing our face in its awesomeness.
Here's to seven!
