My only real question is: When does it get a fleshlight mount like the ipad?

Opm2

We went from bag phones getting smaller and smaller and still smaller back to them getting bigger and bigger.

Ironic, don't you think?

avatar

illusionslayer

What, you honestly thought they were just going to keep shrinking forever?

avatar

tony2tonez

You know who's laughing now? The guy from the '80 commercials of the first cell phones.

avatar

tony2tonez

You guys are stupid. I got a 13" ultraphabletbook. Fits nowhere. Looks stupid as I hold it to my ear but its bigger than Mega.

avatar

ApathyCurve

"Phablet"? Really?

avatar

ZayLay

Your Phablet looks Phan-Tabulous!

What gives with the 8 and 16 GB storage capacities? Starting point for a device of that size and price point should be 32GB, and it does not matter if it has expandable storage 32GB should be the bare minimum today.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

8GB is plenty as long as there's expandable storage.. besides, what do you need 32GB for? do you store that much crapola in your phone as a backup for your PC? extra copies of operating systems? I can udnerstand if you own no other device at all other than a phone (basically a desktop/laptop replacment) but even with the tons of pictures and music I have, I don't even break 4GB. Not trying to flame or be terse or rude, just curious as to the need for that much storage on a phone other than for bragging rights when one shows off to their friends or what-have-you.

avatar

Engelsstaub

What do you encode your music as: Vorbis -q-1?!

I usually have at least 8Gb of just music on my phone. I've been an album-listener for my whole life though.... singles and playlists aren't usually my thing. I used to have like 50 Gb of AAC music encoded @ 256 Kbps VBR on my iPod Touch. It's nice for someone who wants to have most or all of their digital music collection with them but admittedly isn't entirely necessary. Now I basically sync about 25 albums I know I want to listen to and rotate a few in and out whenever I sync my phone.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

Thank you for giving me an example, as I was very curious. And no I just on't have that much music as you do. kinda jelly on that :-) Normally I use my PC for that aspect as well as streaming the music vs storing it.

I see it coming now...is that a samsung galaxy mega in your pocket or are you just happy to see me.

avatar

PCWolf

As long as it fits into my Shirt Pocket, I'm all for it. But They need to make Bigger Batteries for it! A 3,200mAh battery sounds like FAILSAUCE on a phone this big. & it also needs a 2.0Ghz+ Quad Core CPU in it. Dual Core on a phone this big makes it look weak & underpowered.

avatar

owen420

dual core phones are so 2012

with a display that size i would expect a quad but i guess powering something that large isnt that easy

i really can't think of a single person i know who would want this device.

avatar

Nimrod

The people bitching about the size can go fk them selvs. It really needs better hardware tho. GS4 coming out this month is smaller but has better hardware? what?

avatar

AETAaAS

Will people stop moaning that we don't need this? It's no skin off your nose if Samsung loses money on this experiment, bearing in mind people said the same thing when the original Note was announced - and that thing failed spectacularly didn't it? /s

So just let Samsung test the waters to see where people's limits actually are - than trying to dictate what you think it is. If the Mega fails, fine - kill it off. If not, Samsung will open up another possibly profitable product line. It's not as if this thing is meant to be mainstream and its intentions are clearly indicated by its name.

avatar

Engelsstaub

People are just expressing their opinions regarding the huge phone. Not all were negative. Nobody's dictating what Samsung should or should not do.

I personally give Samsung credit for making fringe-devices that may only appeal to some. I'm sure they know that everything they crank out isn't going to be the biggest seller. The fact that they do it anyway could mean that they want to cater to niche-markets. That's pretty admirable and I should commend them for making "something for everyone" even if it's not to my liking.

Most companies play it too safe. Samsung is seemingly willing to take risks.

avatar

Engelsstaub

This is stupid IMO.

There must be a market for it so my opinion is obviously not shared by everyone.

avatar

Exarkun1138

Well, I for one agree with ya! These "phablets" are a ridiculous idea, and screen size is getting out of hand. If that's something that appeals to someone else, fine, but not for me.

My iPhone 4 works just fine for me. I can do all functions with one hand, and it fits nicely on my belt mounted to the Otterbox Belt Clip! It doesn't look stupid. It's not massive. And it does what I need.

For some, they need bigger, massive screens to feel great about their gadget......well, more power to them!

avatar

DeltaFIVEengineer

Couldn't agree more. At what point does strapping a device the size of a phone book (the paper thing with all the phone numbers in it for the younger folk) to your head become ridiculous?

avatar

Renegade Knight

A fair question and yet I see kids walking down the street with headphones bigger than ear muffs.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Also stupid IMO. I have a pretty big set of headphones but they are dead-neutral and I use them for professional audio-editing.

Doesn't seem very sensible for mobile-usage. I could see it once in a while if someone is on a bus, train, or plane trip but walking down the street (as you said) is just a cry for attention I believe.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

remember the walkman and portable cd players? giant devices with microscopic earbuds.. now it's fairly small phones (not the bricks of the 80s) or tiny mp3 players (ipod nano) with gigantic headphones that's almost akin to wearing a full face motorcycle helmet..

LOL. True but sill LOL.

avatar

MaximumMike

I would only want this if all the specs were high end. But the lower specs don't make it as functional for a device this size. I don't think this will be successful. Samsung should stick with the Note for this category.

avatar

majorsuave

I like giant phones. I think it has to do with me being a giant.

avatar

Caboose

Ok Samsung, time to stop. This is just getting stupid.

All future Android devices for me, will be Nexus.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

the Nexus are a good investment, or an unlocked off contract phone of your liking. :-)

avatar

Caboose

I'll order a Nexus right from Google. Unlocked, pure Android. I'll root it for the few things I need, and leave it the rest stock.

avatar

HiGHRoLLeR038

This has got to stop. what's next? a 10-inch phone?

avatar

spokenwordd

Why does it have to stop? if people want to buy them I say go for it. I personally am not into a phone that big though.

avatar

MaximumMike

We already have one... sort of. Check out the Asus padfone.
