XP Mode for Windows 7 Attains Release Candidate Status

Windows 7’s XP Mode has attained RC status. The RC build of Windows XP Mode is available as a download on the Microsoft Windows website. Windows XP Mode is designed to work in concert with Windows Virtual PC (formerly Microsoft Virtual PC) “to help ease the migration process to Windows 7 by providing additional compatibility for their older productivity applications.”

Windows XP Mode ensures that applications designed for XP run seamlessly on Windows 7. Although legacy Windows XP apps run from within a virtualized environment, they can be accessed in exactly the same fashion as native Windows 7 apps.

Windows 7 users will have to ensure that their CPU supports Intel Virtualization Technology or AMD-V for Windows XP Mode to work. It is also important to check whether hardware virtualization, if supported by the CPU, is turned on or not. If this feature is disabled, it will have to be enabled in the BIOS settings.

avatarWorks better than compatibility mode

Maybe this version will work better. Currently Cyberlink DVD won't let me play a dvd through XP Mode. I like to pause and step forward to examine mistakes made in movies. Cyberlink has this function where Media Player doesn't. However Cyberlink runs very buggy on Vista and WIN 7.

avatarI would not

I would not waste the money for virtual xp if you are going to move to Win 7. Me i have Vista 32 home premium and will stick with it.

avatar Depending on what version

Depending on what version of Win7 you get, you don't necessairly have to pay for it.

avatarFrom what

From what i have read you have to atleast buy pro (cost more) to use Virtule xp. I have no need for PRO and if a program won't run on win 7 home premium i would'nt use it. Me myself i will not buy win 7 unless i get a new computer in a couple years.

avatarI'd like to know how well

I'd like to know how well this works--if the speed of the underlying hardware is evident or if this feature is crippled at best. Is it worth paying a that extra premium for an Ultimate edition?

avatar When I was using it, I

When I was using it, I noticed that there was a fair bit of lag. And no, I wasn't gaming. Even with dedicating a core and 2GB of RAM to it to see if that'd make a difference, it didn't...
