Words of a Prince: Internet is Dead, Done, Finished, Finito, Old News (and So Forth)
Dude, the Internet is dead, and the fact that you're still surfing it is, well, quite frankly pretty gross. What's that, the Internet is alive and well, and more popular than ever? Not so, says the the artist formerly and now once again known as Prince.
"The Internet [is] completely over," Prince told U.K. publication The Mirror during an interview earlier this week.
"The Internet [is] like MTV," Prince elaborated a little later in the interview. "At one time MTV was hip an suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."
For the sake of any Prince fans reading this, we'll ignore the obvious irony. Harder to ignore, however, is the fact that Prince might simply be trying to stir up a bit of controversy to draw attention to his latest CD, 20TEN, as CNet argues. But then again, this isn't Prince's first stand against the digital age.
In late 2007, Prince took on the role of copyright cop and demanded that his fan sites remove all "photographs, images, lyrics, album covers, and anything linked to Prince's likeness." Later he would try (unsuccessfully) to prevent a woman from posting a clip to YouTube showing her baby dancing to a portion of his song "Let's Go Crazy" playing in the background.

that all his cell phone calls go through the internet, right? Or does he wait to get home to call. Wait, all home phone lines now go through the internet backbone too. D'oh!

All these computers and gadgets are no good??!! He does know that computers and technology is used heavily in the recording process for his music right? And that gadgets and technology is a requisite for consumers to play his music too right?

I have to say, this is WORSE than the constant reporting of "what ridiculous thing is Steve Jobs saying this time?" I mean seriously. This isn't news-worthy. Some idiot celebrity made an idiot comment. Big effing whoop. The part about his actions in 2007 are more newsworthy but that was 3 years ago man.

I was reading some of the comments, but why all of the hate toward Prince? Prince's statement almost certainly indicates that he has some sort of mental disability. It's not his fault. We should be feeling sorry for him, not calling him washed up and telling him to go "f" himself.

Hey The Fartist Formerly Known and Back to Prince, you're dead, and irrelavant. What kind of musician would sue his own dedicated fan?
It's like telling a customer to f-off and go elsewhere for business.

They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you.
I think he's been filling his head with other substances that clearly aren't good for him.

"'The Internet [is] completely over,'"
HAHAHAHA. The Internet isn't a "fad" like Price is trying to make it out to be. MTV died because less and less people are watching tv and going onto YouTube to watch their stuff. I caught myself many times saying "What a commercial? I am tired of these commercials" while trying to watch tv. It's quite possible, based on this article, that he's against the Internets. I mean he had multimedia posted (in his likeness) and wanted it to be removed. He's trying to isolate himself from the internet, and he might have some bias towards it.

"MTV died because less and less people are watching tv and going onto
YouTube..."Actually, YouTube didn't exist when MTV died. In fact, most people hadn't yet heard of the World Wide Web or the Information Superhighway or whatever they called it back then...Usenet was still fairly popular among geeks.
No, MTV died when they slashed the M. That happened right around 1995.

Ok, really? Really, Prince? SRSLY? I find it ironic he's named his album "20TEN" since it seems like he's still stuck back in the days where Morris Day (and The Muthaeffin' Time) were the ish. Actually, it'll be Prince who will be dead (both figuratively and literally) before the Internet (which will probably become something a whole lot more advanced).

I'm sure everyone is gonna stop using the internet now just because of Prince's speculation. We're just gonna roll back to good ol' snail mail, and who needs online forums? or eBay? or Craigslist? or instant messaging? or downloading? Yeah, I see the internet dying within the month. Just stick with making music and don't try to be tech savvy, cuz you just made yourself look stupid.

maybe the internet can change it's name to a symbol that can't be spoken and it would revive it's hipness.

If Prince refuses to change with the times his music will become irrelavant and not only that he is doing his fans a disjustics. My advice Prince go talk to Trent Reznor.
