Slurpy

Facebook was doing this a few years ago; I'm not sure if they still do it, though.

Oh boy, that'll be about as hard to circumvent as a game that requires the CD in the tray. What is it about anti-piracy measures that just don't work that are so appealing? Then the excuse is that the site's unsafe, which is just lying. Good job guys. The kids these days really respond well to this.

Software trying to make their users behave is annoying. I remember once using an image editing program, and it wouldn't let me alter images of money. Not letting an artist do something is a terrible idea.

Even though this can be easily circumvented, this is setting a precedent that we should be extremely unhappy about. No question about it, this is monitoring of communication.

Although a live human is not involved in real-time, it's still a process that's been put in place that deems content either "acceptable" or "unacceptable". This is a slippery slope and is deeply troubling.

Everything can be countered. But seriously I would stay away from tbp or get a really good VPN while using it.

But it's quite disturbing. The old saw is "if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" but in these kinds of cases, we've already seen the willingness to throw due process out the window.

A lot of people have given their lives to protect this country from the "If you're not doing anything wrong..." type of tyranny.

This type of practice is fine for moderating a chat room/bulletin board. No problems. I'm also (apprehensively) okay with a monitored email/messaging service for young kids.

But this? Slippery slope man, slippery slope.

Agreed

What about shortening the link with tinyURL or bit.ly?

avatar

hades_2100

Or putting a space into the URL? Breaks the link, but whatever.

Or, just send the magnet link via IM. The Pirate Bay doesn't use .torrent files anymore anyway.
