I switched to using Windows 8 Pro as my main OS about a month ago (a legit copy through dreamspark) and I've actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Boot times are way fast off my corsair neutron ssd and I haven't had any program compatibility issues. As a gamer it does my heart good to see old XP-era games run with no issues on an unreleased OS. I admit I have been using classic shell to bring back the start menu, but I think I'll use it less if more/better metro apps show up after launch.

My Windows 7 runs any XP era games without issues either, and I wonder what's the difference in your boot times between W7 and W8 if you use a SSD. I do too, and my Windows 7 boots up in 18 seconds anyway.
Definitely skipping this tablet OS.

please tell me why boot times are important to you? my PC takes 2 minutes to boot up, but then it runs like a jet for months before i restart it again. what is your point please sir?

Dac

Not everyone leaves their computer running 24/7. Boot times have been an OS topic since... well, since OS's.

Edit: and on that note, once MS bogs down windows 8 with all kinds of on-startup processes, its boot times will increase. Remember a fresh install of win7 when it was released? And after a couple years of updates, look at it now.
