Windows 7 SP1 Screenshots Leaked to the Web
Tech site GeekSmack.net claims to have obtained a beta release of Microsoft's upcoming Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and has posted the first screenshots of the build.
While we don't recommend it, for those of you who want to go gallivanting around the web looking for the same beta, GeekSmack says the full build string is 6.1.7601.16537.amd64fre.win7.100327-0053.
"The install process is much of what you would expect from a service pack installer, but one thing I noticed is that the installation is MUCH faster than the install process for service packs on Vista was, which is a very welcome change," TechSmack noted.
There are a bunch of screenshots to gawk at, including a few from after the service pack was applied. Looks legit, and falls in line with Microsoft recently announcing that service packs for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 were forthcoming. According to Microsoft, SP1 for Windows 7 would mostly contain "minor updates."

Lets petition Microsoft to change the name of their Major OS updates from Service Packs to names like what Apple does with it's OSX. Ok maybe not.

Professional could have been 'Windows 7.11 for Workgroups'

Well, of course Windows 7 SP1 install is fast for a service pack: MS said that SP1 contains only minor updates and is pretty much there to mock businesses that wait until SP1 to implement a new Windows release.

I think if you look around at TPG you'll find a program that removes the activation parts from Windows. So if that update puts it back in then all you need to do is re crack your legitimate licensed copy of Windows 7. I think it's called WOT or something like that.

Like another poster, I have not had a single problem with my 2 copies of Windows 7. So I think I will just wait until it is put out in a final release.

Evidently they have a torrent at thepiratebay. Here is the URL... http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5484776/Windows_7_SP1_%287601.16537.100327-0053%29_Bits_UG_DVD_Beta_Interim Have fun and don't blame me if your Windows 7 install explodes. I don't have any problems at all with my install of Windows 7 and have had zero blue screens or error of any kind. I really have no need to mess around with any alpha or beta service packs but if it's another story for you then try it.

Will it finally fix the sorting issue keeping me from upgrading? All I ask is to be able to sort manually!

You can probably download the Service Pack and then slip stream it into a Custom Windows 7 Install Disk.. Maximum PC has articles detailing how to do this and what free software you need.

Contrary to what MaximumPC says, vLite does not work on Windows 7 and probably never will because it is now abandonware.
