Windows 7 OEM Upgrade Program Rumored to Start on June 26th
Last week we learned about Best Buy’s Windows 7 deployment plans, and this week, PCWorld has uncovered a source willing to spill the beans on the OEM strategies and dates. Similar to what we saw with Windows Vista, OEM’s are going to start offering upgrade coupons to individuals or businesses who buy new PC’s on, or after June 26th 2009. As expected, only Windows Vista Home Premium and above will be eligible for the offer, but unlike the Vista upgrade program, OEM’s may be on the hook for a portion of the upgrade fees. PC vendors will be forced to pay somewhere between $9 and $15 per license for the upgrade voucher, but this will allow customers to download a copy on the launch date, and still receive a disk as they become availible.
The coupons are rumored to be valid until Jan 31st 2010, and the OEM’s hope it will be enough to prevent Windows 7 from stalling new PC purchases between now, and the October 22nd launch date. PCWorld wouldn’t reveal the name of the Taiwanese executive who leaked the information, but apparently this was done to protect his companies negotiating creditability with Microsoft. So far, HP & Dell have only confirmed that they will participate in the in the Upgrade Program (whatever that may be), but have refused to release any of the details until Microsoft formally confirms the program dates and details.
Either way, it appears as though you should probably continue holding off on that new PC until at least June 26th.

I can't wait to get rid of Vista. I bought a new Acer Aspire 8930g and it has Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on it. It's not that bad, but Windows 7 is a LOT better. But, I would prefer it to be 32-bit. Hopefully when I upgrade I can upgrade to the 32-bit version. Windows 7 rocks and Mac OS X 10.6 snow Leopard is equally good. If I get a Mac, I'm installing Windows on it as a dual-boot config, that way it will be the best of both worlds: Mac OS X, Windows, and a great looking laptop. It will be a like a hackintosh but on native hardware.

Unfortunately, you can not upgrade from 64 to 32-bit or vice-versa. The versions must match in order to upgrade, but you can always to a clean install. However, since you were planning a dual-boot rig anyway, maybe that's not such an issue. Viva la Hackintosh!!!

I think this dude below me is on crack. Vista wasn't as bad as people made it out to be at first, although it was definitely rough around the edges. I stayed on XP at that time because on my hardware it was absolutely rock stable. After Vista SP1 I went ahead and upgraded and found it to be very good, and again, very stable. Fast forward to when the Windows 7 RC1 came out, I freed up some space and tried it out. After about 3 days I abandoned my Vista install. I am in love with Windows 7, I even installed it on my 1gb/160gb Acer AspireOne and it runs like a CHAMP, even with Aero.
I am not even close to a Microsoft fanboy, I am always bitching about them. However, I have to give them props, they have done good with Windows 7. I consider Vista to be the Windows 7 Alpha.

Hemi in a 2010 Camaro? That is the dumbest idea I have ever heard, and trust me I've heard some dumb ideas. The hemi isn't a real hemi, it just has a hemi embossment on top of the cheap-crap plastic cover that Chrysler (lover of cheap plastic) co. uses.
Macbook Pro running Windows 7, perfect? The problem with Window is.....it's WINDOWS! Microsoft's OS will never be good until they change everything from the core out and the WILL NEVER do that...EVER! Management would strike down any Engineer/Programmer who even mentioned such an undertaking. Or, keep that "good" OS in use for research only (oh, wait they've done that two times that I can recall).
If you know you're getting Windows 7 (which is just as bad as Vista btw), why not get an Asus laptop, or a Lenovo? Asus lappys come with two year warranty/one year accidental standard (no extra dough!). Getting the MBP only makes sense if you run OSX, which is much better than 7 IMO.
Firstly, no ntoskrnl.exe issues after updating. Google it...later!

Well, can't blame you for trying. Why not get the best of both worlds? Apple Macbook Pro, Windows 7 OS...perfect.
BTW, could you guys help me get this Hemi in my 2010 Camaro? LOL

What's funny is that picture with the new windows 7 disc, shows it being inserted into what looks like a macbook or macbook pro. Talk about irony! Don't own a mac myself but that is hilarious.

Intel Processor? Check
Standard RAM / HDD / Optical Drive? Check
Dosn't matter who makes the hardware, sure sounds like a PC to me :)

like I said above, it is the early 2009 Macbook Pro 17" model. It is the 17" version because it has the speaker perforations.

...that this was meant to say on, or after June 26th 2009.
Whatever, I'm already on board. Win7 RC killed the Vista RC.
