What Will the Post-iPhone Cell Phone Be Like?

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponReddit

Cell phone technology has come a long way since it was first introduced and just, as we can't help but snicker when catching a glimpse of the old beige bricks that started it all, it won't be long before today's mobile phones will be considered equally rudimentary. But even with the rapid pace of technology, it took Apple's iPhone to change the game, ushering in what's sure to be a new era of nifty must-have functionality. But what exactly will the post-iPhone cell phone be capable of?

Popular Science whips out its crystal ball so you don't have to, and what they've come up with are five different features that are all destined to come to future cell phones no later than 2009. More than just a wishlist, Popular Science explained the reasoning behind each category and which companies are at work on each technology. PC-grade computing and graphics by late 2009? Sign us up! The list looks sound, but one must-have feature noticeably absent is Sprint's crime deterrent system.

What features would you like to see in tomorrow's cell phones?

avatarcan not say

It can not be said for post iPhone. But whatever it will be, can not compete with Blackberry. Blackberry handsets and Blackberry accessories always remain in demand. You can visit http://www.fommy.co.uk/blackberry-accessories.htm for more Blackberry accessories. However Apple has done a good job with iPhone. In touchscreen smartphone, iPhone may also be good choice.

For T-Mobile’s G1, there will be a bundle of tmobile g1 accessories online to select from; everything from Backup Batteries to Car Accessories, G1 Cases, Chargers, Cables, Headphones, Cradles, Bluetooth Accessories, and more. The list goes on and on, but basically the primary purposes of any g1 accessories are to add functionality, such as where you can use it and what you can use it with, make some features easier to use, and extend the use of the G1 Android phone at Fommy.com.

avatarNothing earth-shattering here

With the next-gen iPhone rumored to be running an Intel Atom processor and Apple's connections with both ATI and nVidia, I can't say any of that surprised me.

The biggest thing holding back cell phone camera technology right now?  The cell phone companies.  They really don't want you using their data network to send photos.  Not if they can get you to pay for it separately.  There are 5MP cameras out there, just not any tied to a plan.

I want to see someone make affordable display glasses that work with my phone or computer.

avatarPhones no more

By adding all this "stuff", can we even call these phones anymore?  where do you distinquish a PDA, smart phone, etc, etc.  Why cant a phone be just a phone?   I got talked into getting into the Tracfone arena and got screwed by them when they brought in the Moto W370.  Got that particular one cuz it has USB connectivity and plays MP3 ringtones.  Well, the nazis that are Tracfone disabled the USB for anything other than charging.  I sitll have to speak to them on that or find a way to hack it (been looking for months)

I would like some modern cell phone capeablilities come to the wireless home phone market.  Custom wallpaper and ringtones for the home.
