Weekend Deal Alert: Grab a Windows Phone 7 Device (and Many Other Mobile Phones) for a Penny
Microsoft was undoubtedly hoping for better launch numbers for its Windows Phone 7 platform, but perhaps this will help. From now until Monday, November 15th, Amazon is selling all AT&T phones for a shiny copper Lincoln, or even a dull Lincoln so long as it's worth 1 cent. And yes, this weekend deal includes the new Windows Phone 7 devices.
Naturally you're going to need to commit to a two-year service contract, and in exchange you can snag an HTC Surround or LG Quantum Windows Phone 7 device for a penny. In other words, they're essentially free. The caveat? Other than the service agreement, these have to be accompanied with a new line of service.
As of this writing, the LG Quantum is backordered (expected to ship in 1-2 weeks), though the HTC Surround is in-stock. Not a bad deal provided either of these phones floats your boat and you're willing to stick it out with AT&T. To read our take on the Windows Phone 7 platform, see here.
UPDATE
Upon further digging, we found several devices across all major carriers listed for a penny, so if AT&T and/or Windows Phone 7 don't excite you, you may still find a phone/carrier that does. If you pounce on any of these, be to sure to hit the jump and brag about it!

wait I'm confused.. the article mentioned "all" ATT phones but only lists the HTC surround and LG Quantum. Isn't the Samsung Focus also offered by ATT?? I don't really care about the other two, but if this deal included the Samsung Focus then that would definitely be a deciding point between that and the Dell Venue Pro. The only option Amazon gives for the Focus however is to sign up for an email notification when the phone becomes available. Sucks! I would sign up for this deal in a heartbeat! Wonder if they'll let us take them up on this offer with a rain check.
On second thought, maybe this deal is happening because no one cares for the other phones and the samsung is on backorder =/

MPC needs to stop copying headlines from the other tech blogs and do some better investigative journaling. This 'one penny' deal is for a lot more than WP7 phones. You can snag up an Android or a dumbphone for a penny, if you wish. The deal covers a lot more.

We emphasized Windows Phone 7 devices in the title because that's hot topic right now, but did point out that it applies to all AT&T phones. And actually, had we dug deeper, we would have discovered it also applies to several phones across all major carriers, so thanks for heads up.

If this were Sprint of Verizon, I'd be tempted, but I'm not really interested in going back to ATT.

For existing customers only? That sucks. I wouldn't get the phone but I was thinking about getting it for a penny and selling it.

I went to Amazon (clicked the link in article) and even when I ADD a new line to family plan it cost $149. Thats a lot of pennies! What exactly we have to do to get the one penny??

Apparently it's only good for new customers, not existing ones. :/
