I've been playing WAR for a month now. At first it seemed like an alright game you could really get into, but after a while it got to the point where I logged in, took one look at my character and said... yep. lol then exited the game.

For some reason I don't find WAR to really draw you in like some MMO's do. It just doesn't have that sort of environment you don't mind spending 5 hours playing in.

Also for those who like pvp, i'm not quite sure WAR will be your game. Every time I enter pvp in WAR its a freakin ghost town.. or theres 24 destruction standing around doing nothing and not an order player in sight. The only time I took part in heavy pvp in WAR was a keep taking. One thing about pvp in WAR is you can run into your own teammates, thus blocking your way to safety most of the time. That is extremly annoying when you are trying to run away from casters.

WAR, not my game.

I already canceled my WAR account due to the game simply being mind numbingly boring after level 40.  If we're being honest - even as fans of the game to varying degrees - I think we have to admit that WAR doesn't really have much of interest to do post level 40.  You can endlessly run instances for a few pieces of gear that make your character slightly better, or you can attempt to participate in open RvR.  I say attempt, because most oRvR is still an uncoordinated mess due to poor player interaction.  Even at it's best RvR is really nothing more than the same old back and forth.  You can't run the instances without a strong party either, so I hope you're the type who likes people and joining guilds.

I was really disappointed by Mythic's work after the launch.  Rather than making the game more balanced and encouraging server populations, they continued their obvious preference towards Destro in balance and created way more servers than they needed.  Over the past few months Mythic has had to close server after server and forced people to move, which hasn't won them any hearts or helped the community that is largely based around individual servers.  There will always be some amount of server consolidation, but because Mythic opened so many more than they needed to, it really hurt the community.

They can patch and add new character types (that the game doesn't need) all they want, but until they make high level open RvR more interesting and dynamic, they will continue to lose people.

The only way I will go back is if i can play WAR cheaper than I can play comparable MMO's. With the economy in the state it is in, these companies need to start dropping their monthly prices to drum up some business. I can no longer see myself paying $15 a month for a game when I could play others for free or cheaper. Time to change your business strategy.

First of all.  Getting a job would be a good start toward paying for your MMO habit. :)  I am saying this in good fun.  $15 a month is damn cheap entertainment.  I can spend $15 in a bar in less than an hour.  Buy a crappy CD.  See a movie with a soda.  Sit in the cheap seats at a minor league sports game.  Take my kids to McD's.  You get my point I hope.  Others said the same thing.

As far as lag goes.  Stop crying.  Get a faster machine.  Your P4 with 1 gig RAM and a Nvidia 7XXX card isnt gonna cut it anymore.  Its bottom of the barrel.  Turn your graphics down and just play.  It is playable with those machine specs.  Ive even tested on a old AMD Barton, 2 gigs of RAM and a 9700 Pro.  Its playable, but dont expect miracles.  Do you have any idea what it takes to show 100 different characters on your screen at once?  This isnt WoW where everything is static server side controlled because all WoW really has is PvE.  Lag not only depends on your PC and connection but that guy on the other end too.  It only gets worse as you add more players.  I personally run a Q9650, 8 gigs of RAM and a 4870X2.  I still get lag.  Anytime I go into a fight like a fort push, I tweak my graphics down to combat the lag.  Its going to happen.  Its the nature of online gaming and especially MMOs with PvP.

I wish they would just do server merges and stop screwing around.  Merge full servers.  That way everyone goes.  If people want to move elsewhere, then give them an option for a transfer.

My other wish is that Destro would stop being such a bunch of little girls on Ironfist and start queing for scenarios, lol.  You cant tell me that any given tier during primetime there isnt at least 20 people leveling in each tier.  People just are not queing up, even in T4.

Mythic can still have a succesful game.  They just need to get the glaring issues like no decent RvR while leveling, and some of the balance issues they are supposed to address in 1.3 straightened out.  If they could hold 500K accounts active Id call it a success.

Trust me, I can afford the subscription fee. ;) You are completely right $15 a month is not expensive But with other games out there like LOTRO and WoW I am not willing to pay $15 a month. I like both of those games a lot more than WAR so the value for me is simply not there. RvR was fun but there is a reason why so many people left.

Alot of the reason people left is that alot of people dont like PvP and thats where the end game is.  This is what makes WAR shine and made DAOC shine in its day.  Alot of WoW and Lotro players DONT want to compete against other players.  I have friends that play WoW that openly admit it.

Myself, running some stupid ass dungeon for snowballs chance in hell of getting what I want isnt my idea of fun.  I run the city dungeons in WAR every 3 days.  Not just for myself, but mostly to get my guild geared.  They need to at least make your chances the better for what you need scaling with how many times you have been in there.  Im about to say screw it and never step foot back in there.

I played Lotro btw.  Good game overall.  However I disliked the gear grind, crafting system and PvP.  I never played WoW.  You could be a superior player in average gear and lose to some scrub no-lifer who can raid for 200 hours according to what my friends said.  That was an instant turn off for me.

Ironfist is one of the unlucky Low/Lows, and you can wait hours for a SC to pop, and when it does you will be with 12 Choppas and no healers while Order will have 5 healers and an actually strategy while you just pray the 500 comes quickly.  And 500k is a pipedream for Mythic right now, I doubt they are over 200k right now.

Destro also seems to be against joining parties in T3 and T4 (I invite everyone I see while we are PQing or on dungeon runs, and mostly get denied)

Last part of rant...Slayers are overpowered 1 hit killers right now.

Nah,  Ironfist is a medium/medium primetime server.  I actually prefer it that way.  I really hate zergs honestly.  The problem is people just arent doing anything.  People run around in PvP and its a freaking ghost town.  RvE ftl....  Nobody really wants to fight it seems like unless its a fort push.  6 on 6 or 12 on 12 in open field is really alot of fun but nobody does it.  T4 scenarios are dead.  It just sucks in general.  The sad thing is the players themselves can fix the problem, but nobody tries.

Part of it may be people are grinding thru the city dungeons for the 45th time to get a piece of armor.  (Im at 34 tries on my boots)  Or they are on a 5 hour LV run.  When I get done with the city dungeons I log for the night even though I can solo tank all the bosses with my IB and it goes fast with 1 tank, 3 DPS, 2 healers.  I think we are under 2 hours for all 3 dungeons.  This part of the game is getting lame.  If I wanted to dungeon crawl, Id go play WoW.

I hear you about the people not wanting to group.  Most people are quest grinding and that fastest solo or a duo that are on the same quests.  Our guild spend alot of time doing PQs in chapter 22.  We always try to keep our groups open and have recruited plenty of people this way.  Its just too bad they gutted the PQs now.  I dont think Ive seen a gold bag drop on a hard chap 22 PQ since the last patch.

They need to fix up some stuff without a doubt.  They are bleeding cuctomers right now even though last report I saw they were around 300k subs, but who really knows.  Mythic has always been tight lipped regarding numbers.

No matter how you slice it $15 a month is cheap entertainment.  When the cost of going  toa 2 hour movie is $9 or even going to minor league baseball game is 15 bucks for a couple hours entertainment.

I need a bigger pipe.  The game still has stop motion lag in high population areas which is very bad in combat.  They also need to make the econmy bigger.

The devil is in the details and that's where Mythic is dropping the ball.  WoW was fun just to go someplace new and watch what some of the creatures would do.  You can sit in almost every chair, get married and do almost any normal thing you can do in real life.  Truely a social networking site with a theme.

When/if Warhammer gets to that point they will have an edge on WoW because the PvP is far superior than any MMOout there.  Hopefully it will last long enough to try.

I agree the social aspect is lacking, and the marketplace is terrible.  WoW has issues for sure, but if you quested all night to get the Uber Sword of AssKicking for your lvl 20, you should not have to throw it away when you hit 25 and get new kit because it is "bound" to you.

In these MMOs where everyone has the same skills, the only thing that separates the good from the great is the gear, but Mythic has killed the potential of the marketplace (and with it, a large part of point of playing) by binding gear.

avatar

Muerte

The thing that separates the good from the great is the amount of time they are able and willing to put into the game.

If you don't bind the gear of the rarer stuff not too many would go to the trouble to actually do the instances to get the gear.  They would just buy it.  And the people who really want to do the content would suffer.  I think it might be a good experiment to try it the other way but I'm sure that's one of the things that's been play tested to death and this came out as the best solution.  After all I have yet to play a MMO that doesn't do it this way.

other for cheaper? i thought 15 bucks a month is pretty standard o.O....

and btw i have seen lots of new players on skullthrone. i even recruited 4 to my guild in the past week. it's going well :p

avatar

BoxyBrown

It is standard in all the newer MMOs but FFXI is $12.95 and Guild Wars is free. There are some others out there with a cheaper subscription fee but those were the two that came to mind when I wrote it.

After the first amalgamation of servers I was surprised to see 90% of the remaining servers still at Low/Low.  People left en masse mid Feb, decimating my previous Guild and most everyone else.  It was so bad, I knew everyone by name on the server "Hi Gridlock, hows it going?....morning Puppykiller, hows the wife?"

I agree $15 is too much, $9.99 sounds about right for the amount of service I am getting (my 72 hour Trouble Ticket took 3 weeks to get an answer...answer was "we cant help you").

Yes, they had the big patch and added some features.  Now the free trial (btw, I hate all of you trialware guys on my server) and the promise of "more features" in the future.  The whole thing smacks of desperation, not sure what I am doing when my card runs out in 2 weeks...
