WarCraft Movie Snags “Saving Private Ryan” Screenwriter

Are we in the midst of a videogame movie that might just be – dare we say it – worth looking forward to? Well, let’s see: first, the Dark Knight’s producer signed on, then Spiderman director Sam Raimi swung onto the set, and now, “Saving Private Ryan”/"The Patriot" screenwriter Robert Rodat’s attempting to prove to us that “WarCraft” won’t turn out to be a superhero movie, among other things.
"I've never made a video game movie, but my approach would be to work with the best character writer I can find, which in this case is Robert Rodat, and tell a great character story within the fantastic environment of the world of WarCraft, while staying true to their mythology,” said director Sam Raimi.
Wait. You mean, in order to craft a quality videogame movie, you need to hire talented people? Doh! We knew everyone else was doing something wrong.
Command and Conquer?! you

Command and Conquer?! you got to be joking. Anyone serious about making a good film knows that content is king. You can have all the graphics, special effects, and good-looking actors money can buy, but if your story lacks substance, your movie is crapola. What's exciting about WoW as a film is it has so much lore backing it up. So many developed and interesting characters and races it'd be difficult to make a bad movie if you got Blizzard developers and artists in the mix. Story is what makes Blizzard games stand out from everything else. It's why Aion fails.. The games that would make good films are the ones with great stories: WoW, Starcraft, Halo, Bioshock, Mass Effect - These all would make great films... Command and Conquer, Aion, Doom, Dungeon Siege... eh.. not so much.

I'll be first in line for a WoW movie, but I agree that there are better choices. Maybe a Half Life series. At least we'll finally get the ending.

Two things

First, every time a new MMO comes out people leave in droves to play it, just like with warhammer, but alot of them end up comming back once the newness wares off. Noone has managed to make a real run for the title of mmo champion since wow came on the scene. I'm not saying WoW is a better game than others out there, but you can't deny that they sell subscriptions like noone else.
Second, Having such a large past and present player base, combined with the big names and huge money thats being thrown at this, even people who have never been interested in video games will probably be interested in seeing the movie. Either way, this will answer a long standing question. Even if you throw all the money in the world at it, will a video game movie still suck? :D only time will tell.

Too bad it's a World of Warcraft movie...
Honestly... there are much better series that could be made
Why not a Command & Conquer Tiberium universe movie quadrillogy or something. That'd be interesting!
