Wake up: PC Version of Alan Wake Canceled

It’s been quite a while since we had any real face time with Alan Wake, and with good reason. See, he’s been turned. Why? Well, apparently, our infinitely malleable platform of choice was just too “intimate” for him.
"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive," said a Microsoft spokesperson to CVG. "Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."
In all fairness, the spokesperson’s onto something here. Certain genres – like, say, survival-horror – are better suited to the “in yo’ face,” up close and personal intimacy of a PC screen, while others feel more at home stretching their legs in the living room.
Hey, wait. Isn’t Alan Wake a survival-horror game? Well, this is awkward.

Ive been a hardcore online PC gamer since back in the quake days, I love my FPS games, I could never play them on a console. I bought a Ps3 for media streaming, blurays, the usual stuff. I tried a couple FPS with a controller and was totally useless, then a friend showed me a FragFX controller for the PS3. Its got half a controller for your movement, and a mouse for aiming. It isnt the greatest setup for FPS's on a console, but I have to say, a FPS is now playable on a PS3, Modern Warfare 2 plays great with it. There is also another unit you can find on Ebay for about 80 bucks that lets you hook a nice USB mouse and KB to it, map the buttons and you can play on your PS3 with a real mouse and keyboard. Search on Ebay for a XFPS adapter.
As for this game being 360 Ex, just means somebody did some serious palm greasing to get it exclusive. In this day and age of greed, corruption and collusion it doesnt surprise me one bit.

I've been playing FPS games since the original Doom. I remember the first time I played Halo on a friends X-Box. I remember how shitty it was to try to control it. I got my ass kicked. I wasn't even mad about loosing though. I just remember being like "How can you actually be enjoying this?"

BOOOOOOOOOO!
Did he actually say we should play this on the couch in front of a large TV? But wait, aren't we all supposed to be putting our PCs in the living room and attaching them to our HDTVs? Isn't that why you created that glorious failure that is windows media center? Too bad those bloodsucking bastards at the cable companies demand we continue to use those lovely boxes.
Right platform you say??? IT'S THE SAME DAMN PLATFORM!!! It's a low end pc with a loud fan and a neutered OS you idiots.
But no no you go ahead and funnel some more money into inferior technology. Yeah that really seems like it would benefit all of us. Hey if anyone knows best it's you microsoft. Thanks for looking out for us. I'd really hate to have to sit at my desk and play that game.

This is all about selling 360's... the same reason Gears2 and Halo3 are only 360 games... PC gamers are lucky DA, ME2, made it to PC... oh and Bioshock2... if that mess even counts.

I don't think PC Games will ever die or lose popularity AT ALL -- think open source free games such as :
America's army, Crossfire, Urban Assault, the list goes on and on.. Plus, their many many user-submitted maps !
And your existing PC game collections, think CounterStrike Source / HL2 / BF2 / FC2 / etc with bajillions of maps being added almost daily !! Plus, PC gamers.. our BOT are way way more intelligent that console BOT !! I've seen CODMW on PS3 single player.. their BOTS are sooo predictable and they have a sets of "pattern" so you can easily beat the game. And they don't have bajillions of user maps like us ;)
Just like the Linux, PC Games user map-making hobby will prevent the downfall of PC gamings.

PC gaming will never die. UNLESS - people buy games that contribute to its death. Games that take away our ability to make servers - or games that take away our ability to save unless we're internet-connected. Or games that require you to log into some server to play. If you buy these games, you are personally helping PC gaming to die. Don't buy EA games. Don't buy "Games for Windows Live" games. And no matter what - never, ever, ever buy an Ubisoft game. If you do, you have no right to complain about the sad state of PC gaming. Ever.

It is sad when i am looking to drop about the same amount of cash on just a video card as these console fools drop on whole system, granted, some games are only for some platforms, diablo 2, only pc. but you console losers can suck my 1.25 tb storage, 4gb ram, and 1gb video. will blow your ps3 out of the water on a straight speed test, oh yeah, can also use word, excel, im, email, surf the web, watch movies, watch tv, burn dvds, listen to music, etc.

Too bad... I guess I won't be buying or playing this one then. While the 360ers are busy fumbling around on their gamepads I'll be busy with some real gaming on a PC that will blow any console out of the water.

I agree with you 100% i feel that PS3 Xbox360 and WII are a waste of time, plus a Computer would blow any of them out of the water and into the fryingpan. At lest with my computer when it seems slow i can buy a part, not have to just deal with it. Also it is said that the Alan Wake game isn't coming to PC it would have been nice, but i would rather have Dante's Inferno on PC, its more hardcore anyway.
I'd rather die on my feet then live on my Knees!

Can't speak to Alan Wake but as far as Heavy Rain goes...
I just played the PS3 demo and i have to say i think it'll be a great console game but would've been a horrible PC game. I'm a die-hard pc gamer, bought a ps3 for rock band, blu-ray, media streaming and it does all those great but try to play a 1st or 3rd person shooter, no thanks!! PC games are better hands down no argument possible, every game(other than the rock band/guitar hero franchises) that i've bought for ps3 have gone back for trade-ins within a month!!!
That said Heavy Rain is designed well to match the limitations of the console, limited views and wacky control schemes that wouldn't translate to the keyboard at all. But it does feel innovative, like playing a movie much more so than adventure games i've played on pc(similar to indigo prophecy though).I can't imagine the game being ported to the PC, it would frustrate the heck out of me if i couldn't move my mouse for a 360 view whenever i want.
I fear the death of pc gaming as much as anyone but the fact that these types of games are console only just displays the limitations of consoles not their superiority

For years people have been predicting the death of PC gaming and nobody would listen. And another ones gone and another ones gone and another one bites the dust. Sounds like a rock song.

wow I remember seeing the screenshots of Alan Wake (John Stamos look-alike of FullHouse) back in 2006 when my fav website www.3dgamers.com was still in existence ! Does anybody remember that site ? it host up-to-date game demo together with screenshots ! Gosh I miss that site !
Anyways .. the screenshots of Alan Wake from 2006 really looked awesome. I even remember they were showcasting the rain drops animation which made my jaw dropped.
The person who posted that Nvidia should become a game publisher -- I totally agreed :) I can imagine Nvidia company are more PC-centric than console-centric like those fools (microsoft, EA, etc etc).
Thats a BIG SHAME on Microsoft for not wanting to support their own game on PC (that runs on MICROSOFT Windows O/S). Are they gonna give up on Microsoft Windows O/S soon too ?? They'll probably planning to phase out Windows for Mac or Linux !

"Life is about living, not stressing" - a very smart girl :)
sigh, I was also looking forward to Heavy Rain and now Alan Wake to be on PC. This sucks. I think Nvidia just needs to become a game publisher so they will actually make PC games, not just plan them and then at the last second go to the inferior platform (that's my opinion). Even if they would only be publishing games to sell more gfx hardware, at least the PC would actually /get/ games! lol

at the rate tehre going its never going to come out so does it really matter? I have a feeling its not going to be that good anyway, its took so long, and when that happens there either trying to make a turd not smell, there over thinking it and changing to much, or it really will be better for the delays, but im guessings its gonna be one of the first to, what a shame.

Semper Leporid!
I'm just as pissed that EA's "Dante's Inferno" won't go to PC either. That game looked awesome.
Originally it was supposed to also be for the PC platform, but they wussed out and are only making it for XBox and PS3. What's wrong with these guys?
Poop.
