my neighbor's half-sister makes $70 hourly on the internet. She has been laid off for five months but last month her paycheck was $17706 just working on the internet for a few hours. Here's the site to read more NuttyRich.c0m

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

All of the Microsoft employees and PR firm monkeys trying to remind us how important it is for us to migrate to the "faster" Windows 8 can blow a goat.

Not going to buy it. Ever. Will not use an OS designed from the ground up to manipulate and market me.

Don't care what hacks are developed to polish this turd. Not going to buy it. Ever.

Steve Ballmer can shove this OS up his fat ass.

You may want to stay away from other OS's as well then, and web browsers, newspapers, looking out the window during the daily commute, etc. I have nothing against any other OS but I must ask; which one are you using?

avatar

compguytracy

I installed VIstart, removes metro, replaces start button, looks alot like 7, but faster http://www.lee-soft.com/vistart/

My preference for an OS is focused on Speed & Value, if windows 8 hits them I'll definitely get one. Simplicity is not an important factor for me, but in other people their views may vary. So anyway I just wish Microsoft with the best of luck :)

The only way to improve our technology is to move forward.

I made the switch from XP to Linux back in 2005. My laptop was broken, I received a few hand-me-down rigs, and I needed something free and legit to load on them. I switched some of them back to XP after finding the OEM restore discs for cheap. I also played with OSX back when I had an iBook in good repair.

My homebuilt desktops will continue to run Ubuntu and Debian, but the XP rigs that meet the hardware requirements will definitely make the jump to Windows 8. Gotta get up to speed before family and friends call for tech support :P

Hey.That_Dude

Retail stores mark you calender for October 27th for all the returns.

I have been on the Win8 Release Preview since it came out. It took me a while to get used to it, but now I have a really hard time going BACK to Win7 on my other machines. Win7 seems so clunky now. Hard to describe, I guess it's because Win7 feels slower, esp when multitasking. Win8 is a lot more snappier and has a lighter touch on resources. Not as much an improvement as from XP to Win7 but enough to definitely notice.
I will be upgrading all my machines (and my sons machines- what, 5 total?) to Win8 when it gets released.

I'm the same, I went through all the levels of mourning, anger, denial etc ha ha but when it comes down to it, it really is a superior OS. I switched back to play Max Payne 3 due to issues with Win 8 and it just felt old... like XP does when going back from 7.

Do I use Metro? Barely.

Does it effect my daily PC usage? Not at all.

Wow, I guess I'll get this OS when it finally gets here in the Philippines. Thank you Sir for sharing your experience in Windows 8 :)

For all the hate, no one is making you buy Windows 8. I, on the other hand, am looking forward to what it'll do for the tablet market. The Surface Pro is looking mighty sweet, and might eventually replace my laptop if it becomes powerful enough for gaming. A lot of people on MaxPC don't seem so keen on it, but that doesn't say anything about the rest of the PC peeps. Best of luck, MS!

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

And if I buy a new computer after October do I get a choice as to whether or not I want Win 8? More than likely NO.
So yes they are making me buy a computer with an OS that I don't want.

Start shorting MSFT today!

It's the metro UI. If in fact a patch or hack to restore the Start Menu comes out, and if in fact you can disable the metro code from loading with boot, I may consider switching for the under-the-hood benefits, 'cause $40 isn't so bad. Otherwise I'll stick with the windows 7 goodness I have, or go back to my Linux Desktop when Steam is finally released. Maybe I'll downgrade to an i5 2500 for the VTD extension and run windows in a virtual machine.

Metro, what Metro?

Neufeldt2002

John, did you read the link that talks about MS and advertising in Metro apps? Not to far of a leap to add ads to Metro itself from there ala Xbox.

Upon Windows 8's release, Maximum PC will surely install XP in all of their Build-It rigs. A true power-user is able to realise, that after inventing the wheel, we don't need no stinkin' wagons or cars, cause we got a wheel :p
People will continue to soldier on with XP and 7, patiently waiting for Windows 9, when Microsoft decides to kill the Desktop.

avatar

Budman_NC

Bryce, I was kind of thinking about the same thing. Has anyone heard what Maximum PC plans to do when this pig is launched? They've mentioned how unpopular it seems to be with us, but I've not heard them say anything about making the move in future builds. I guess they'll have to go with it to stay relevant and current, but I'd love to hear what Gordon, Nathan and the rest have to say. Thankfully, Dream machine 2012 will be out before the release. I've run both the CP and RP and I love the improvements under the hood, but booting into a UI I have no intention of ever using makes no sense. What say you MaxPC??!

avatar

BryceBooth

Maybe they should build three rigs; a Linux box, a hackintosh, and a Windows machine. Irregardless, whatever they decide to do, it'll surely be pretty awesome, er make that Maximum.

avatar

aarcane

I'm waiting for microsoft to start leasting windows 9 as a pay-by-use model. per user, per month? If you've got a family shared PC, you're hosed! Could you imagine how absurd it would be to make someone pay per user account or connected user? That's just insane, but I bet microsoft would do it.

livebriand

I think I'll go buy some copies of Windows 7 on the 26th, just to show how I hate metro...

avatar

gothliciouz

windows 8 is stupid, that's all!

avatar

BryceBooth

Not to sound like a complete jerk stating the obvious, but an OS is designed with the user's needs/requirements in mind as envisioned by the company who makes it. The software works for you.

avatar

aarcane

Windows 8 does not "Work for me", or for anyone I know for that matter.

I know a person or two who is in fact looking forward to Windows 8. One is a fanboy, and the other wants the new and improved drive extender BS.

avatar

livebriand

It doesn't work for me either. In fact, I don't know anyone who likes it.

avatar

Mikey109105

I am definitely waiting for Windows 8.....to burn in hell!!!!

avatar

johna

Tried it don't like it. It is like ME it won't be accepted.

avatar

BryceBooth

It's okay, YOU are accepted here :p

avatar

SenTora

I think it's safe to say that this Windows 8 is this Gen's Windows ME

avatar

pastorbob

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. As much as I would like to believe that the response of the Max-PC readers is indicative of Windows 8's future, I can't. I think the Apple iPad and other Apple products are indicators of the accuracy of the that barometer.

So, though I will pass on Windows 8, I will be interested to see how it does.

avatar

mh15216

It'll do great.... in pre-boxed sales. Doubtfully so in any other release. Just IMHO

avatar

yardGNOME

The OS is ok, IF they hadn't released it 3 years after Win 7. If M$$$$$$ would have waited 5-6 more years, they would see the IT and power user crowd alike, maybe (if they get rid of metro) migrate to the new system. hence this BS $40 upgrade. I am not even going to bother with Office yet until Office 2007 becomes obsolete.

avatar

USraging

I have been using the release preview on my laptop for a while. It wouldnt be so bad if they would bring back the start button. dont really realize how much you use it tell its gone.

avatar

philipa25

*insert stupid windows 8 comment here* Wanted to beat the crowd

avatar

wolfing

*insert MS fanboy response about how Metro is good once you get used to it*

avatar

Mortal_M

*Insert response saying that I'm switching to Apple*

avatar

philipa25

Were did I say I liked it? You've got to admit that the windows 8 articles have been attracting a lot of stupid though.

avatar

Mortal_M

I think he/she wasn't saying that but just making a "combo" as it's known in funny websites (look at my comment)
:)

avatar

OliverSudden

Windows 8 is here? Ooh, pinch me.

avatar

RaptorJohnson

If you can read this then you probably are not going to get windows 8.

avatar

mini6090

That, my friend, is brilliant. I tried to run it off my main rig just to really try it with my own files, I couldn't last a day. It's a mess and needs to be thrown out like now. Or at least make this a consumer version, then rip out metro and give us power users back the Windows we've been using for a good 20 years.

avatar

Duck Dodgers

Change is soooooo hard and scary. I was like that too, couldn't last a day. But I finally got around to customizing Metro and the desktop and now it's at least tolerable. Keep playing with it and it might grow on you. And what is this "start button" everyone keeps speaking of??? *Edit* I didn't use my main rig for W8. I used my AMD test-bed.
