VMware Hopes to Run 2 Smartphone OSes at Once with Virtualization

VMware wants to relieve some of the frustration of choosing a smartphone--which operating system (OS) to go with? Why go with one, VMware reasons, when you can just as easily go with two?
That’s the plan, anyway. VMware is working on a virtualization, VMware Mobile Virtualization Platform (MVP), that would allow a smartphone to run any two operating systems: iPhone OS, WebOS, Android, or Windows Mobile. Currently, VMware has a prototype running Android and Windows Mobile. But, the current implementation comes with unsightly boot menus. VMware wants the final product to offer seamless, on-the-fly OS switching. VMware plans for the final product to run on any ARM-based chipset using the ARMv4 through ARMv7 Instruction Set Architecture (ISA).
VMware expects to have MVP on the market in 2012. Until then you’ll have to be happy with only one OS on your smartphone.
