Vista Service Pack 2 Will Most Likely Come Out Before Windows 7

It seems as though many enthusiasts are biding their time with Vista and have already begun looking forward to Windows 7. In some respects, so has Microsoft, who doesn't need much coaxing to talk about the new OS, whether it be about the refined UAC experience or explaining where the Windows 7 naming scheme comes from. But that doesn't mean Vista's being kicked to the curb.
On the contrary, it looks as though Vista's second Service Pack will make a debut before Windows 7, suggests ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley. According to Foley, select hardware and software partners have already received a beta of SP2, and while the murmurs are unusually quiet regarding what the new Service Pack will bring, Foley's sources have indicated that Microsoft's goal is to deliver SP2 before Windows 7 in an attempt to lessen confusion among users mulling whether to deploy Vista or wait for the new OS. And what does Microsoft have to say on the matter?
"Microsoft is working on a second Windows Vista Service Pack (Windows Vista SP2) and will share more details in the coming months," a Vista spokesperson wrote.
Hit the jump and let us know what you're most looking forward to: Windows 7 or Vista SP2.

i like having the best os i can get.
i tried that mac os x (made for intel procs.) it really looks better than vista btw. couldn't make the internet work.
vista is the best in looks os there is at the moment. the 32bit version works 100%. but when u install the 64bit, it's just goes bad, every service start malfunctions, everything goes down the trash.
i am wainting for windows 7, and i demand, that the 64bit version works. if not. i am going to get a mac.
New Versions of Windows

I believe that software companies are in for a surprise. Software is becoming a mature market where no one needs a new version. Windows XP and Office 2003 provide all the capability I need. I just built a new computer and installed XP. The main reason is that I simply do not believe that Vista offers enough improvement to be worth the time and effort to learn the new system. We are past the peak of people waiting in line to get the newest versions!
xP vs Vista vs 7

I'm going to leave XP on my desktop until 7 comes out. I'm going to put Vista on laptops, if it isn't there already.

I'm skipping Vista and hoping.....

I'm skipping Vista and hoping.....Windows 7 will NOT be Vista with "new clothes"
I have Vista and Xp Pro...have run both from formatted harddrives and I couldnt get Vista off my machine fast enough! As I've said in similar topics the ONLY good thing I've seen in Vista is DX10 and the hardened kernal...the rest was just MS's way to overcharge for an OS.
I trully miss the old days when MS was a decent company and wrote OS's for the user and not soley for their bottom line. I know we're in a lean economy but that is no reason for a company with MS's deep pockets to rip off the consumer. That in itself was bad enough, but then forcing it down peoples throats is simply unforgivable.
eh...

With so many people (including me) holding off on moving to Vista it seems too soon to be thinking about a new Windows already. I've only been using it for about 6 months! I finally got to the point where I'm liking my Vista Business installation. Windows 7? I'll wait for the dust to settle...
No Chance for Vista

I've played with Vista on and off again since it came out, but I won't be adopting it at all. My copies of XP Pro will carry me into either Windows 7, or since Ubuntu is getting more and more gaming capable and I'm already a dual boot user...

Linux is hardly "gaming capable." Ok, that isn't exactly true...there's no technical reason a Linux box can't run games very well, but that's irrelevant if no one writes games to run on Linux in native mode (sorry, Wine/Cedega just don't cut it). There's isn't much demand for Linux gaming, so very few games show up for the patform. If you game, you're stuck with M$ for the time being.
Oh, well. If Windows 7 is significantly more resource-efficient than Vista and has some compelling features, I'll buy it. If not, I'll stick with what I've got. Simple as that.
Um, well...

I don't know what others do, but I've had pretty good luck gaming on Ubuntu with Wine. You don't have to like it, and admittedly there is a ways to go, but since I don't play at ultra high resolutions - only 1280x1024 - I can pull off a few things as have others that actually get in there andlearn what they are doing. Not just sit there and dog on something without knowing all the facts.

I really want away from vista. but i look at 7, I did originally have high hopes for it, but I honestly think i might have PTSD with that aero glass interface......the glass interface is a rediculous resource hog..as well as the os itself. and im still kinda peeved about my purchase of vista not even two years ago, and not being able to have any hope for some type of refund or exchange for 7. im thinking about leaving windows all together and goin to linux.
What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for? Someone else to hold your hand with ya? If ya don't like Vista or XP, it's no one elses fault but your own.

@xs0u1x,
I agree with DS, what is holding you back from switching?? Start dual booting and see how everything works and you can still go back to XP/Vista if you want play your games.

hence "thinking about it".
in the common man's world we think about things before we do it.
