Video Game Dubbed “Lose/Lose” Doesn’t Really Offer a Way to Win/Win
Posted 09/30/09 at 05:57:40 PM by Jason barry
If you thought Red Faction 2 was a destructive game, download Lose/Lose from Zach Gage and play it for a few hours. You might not be able to boot your computer after a marathon session of alien bashing.
Zach Gage developed the game to have real life consequences, and real life consequences it has. “Each alien in the game is created based on a random file on the players computer. If the player kills the alien, the file it is based on is deleted.” Sounds dangerous, right? Well, that was the intention.
According to his “manifesto,” he hopes to invoke the question of moral obligation and blur the line between virtual and physical possessions and their priorities in a technical world.
While the best solution is never fire a single shot, it could be the least fun game ever...unless you play it on a co-workers computer.

So if this deletes random files, you presumeably play until you bluescreen? Then the game is over....perminantly....
too much risk, not enough reward

Has anyone actually played

Has anyone actually played it? It seems like an incredibly stupid concept. Besides, wouldn't permissions effect the games ability to manipulate files?
That's what i was wondering.

That's what i was wondering. Especially in vista, if /I/ as the administrator have a hard time deleting some files (the UAC prompts the admin to delete system files and says it need permission to continue.. it can get annoying lol), then this game shouldn't be able to at all
UAC serving a valid, real-world purpose, yay :)

Well, he can get in trouble in Canada for this, as it comes under destruction of personal property, computers crimes and who knows what other laws it violates; not sure what it would be considered in the US.

too bad it destroys files from one's HDD. i would like to see one that gets rid of pesky viruses, and a defrag tetris, that in real time, defrags your HDD while you play it.

I kinda like the 'generated from content on your HD' aspect, but destroy your entire copy of Windows through a game? Did Apple make this? Better yet, will it run on a Mac? I'd like to see Time Machine handle that!
