Verizon Customers have iPhone Envy
Despite some earlier rumors to the contrary, it doesn't appear as though Apple's iPhone is coming to Verizon, at least not before 2012. That doesn't mean demand doesn't exist, however, and on the contrary it appears the iPhone would be a huge hit on Verizon's network, suggests a new study by Morgan Stanley.
"According to our [Alphawise U.S. consumer iPhone survey], there is substantial pent up iPhone demand within the Verizon installed base as 16.8 percent of Verizon subscribers said they are ‘very likely’ to purchase an iPhone if offered on the Verizon Network," writes Katy Huberty, an analyst with Morgan Stanley.
"This 16.8 percent is higher than AT&T subscriber’s 14.6 percent extreme interest in the current AT&T iPhone, and well above the overall iPhone extreme interest of 7.5 percent."
So why does this matter? Well, if the numbers hold true, Apple stands to sell a ton of iPhones through Verizon, should the two companies ever hook up. Huberty estimates that Verizon stands to sell about 7-8 million iPhones annually, which would certainly soften the blow from ending an exclusivity contract with AT&T.

Seriously?? Give credit where credit is due. First, I own no Apple devices at all. My wife and daughter own iPods. I have an old MP3 player. I have a custom built PC. However, I would jump on the iPhone if it came to Verizon. I know many people who would yet they do not own Apple computers.
Every review that I read including Maxium PC gives the iPhone top reviews (better than the Droid). Why has no one been able to create an "iPhone killer"? Its been several years since its been out. Nexus One is close but with T-Mobile, they can't compete. You Apple haters refuse to give Apple credit. Why is the iPhone (after Blackberries) the top smartphone and most desirable? Why is the iPod the best selling digital media device? Apple knows how to create an excellent product. Windows Mobile?? Right, keep thinking that will be better. Zune? People still buy iPods.
If the iPhone does not come to Verizon next year, I will get a Droid. If Verizon does get the iPhone, I will get it along with the rest of my family & friends. I believe the "iPod envy" exists. There is a lot of pent up demand. However, the longer Apple & Verizon wait, the better it is for the Android family of phones.
Apple knows how to create a product that people will want. No one else has been successful at doing this. (although Windows 7 was one product that had high demand.)

You do know that a few weeks ago Apple stated that Verizon would not be getting the iPhone right? Im pretty sure it was a statement to the effect of AT&T retaining exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in the US at least. This so called rumor was only a rumor in your circle of journalists. We all didnt buy in. We just watched your fellow journalists continue to milk this non story and each one who posted a name with said rumor story lost credibility. Like your in danger of doing with this junk. You missed a real opportunity here to set this right.
Now as far as iPhone envy. I can only guess this to be a rumor as well. All my friends and family are on Verizons network and not one of them has iPhone envy since Android was released. Why? Because Android destroys the iPhone. Plus no one likes a cult. Im going to let you in on a little secret. Polls are garbage. They only sample a small group and try to use those finding to define the whole bunch. This means the numbers can swing either way and unless the whole customer base is polled are worthless. WORTHLESS!!!!
Lastly Apple has really limited there growth now. There really is no where to go for the iPhone but down at this point. I subscribe to business 101 and Apples strategy is a joke. They took a huge group of potential customers and cut them in half. Why would you do that? Because Steve jobs is crazy. They signed excusivity contracts with AT&T for waaay to long. Apple left a huge door open for Google to come right in a make the iPhone look like a piece of junk.

There are so many other phones out there now that have the same capabilites and are with other carriers, I don't see why anyone would be hung up on having an iPhone.

After having a Droid for a few weeks, I found out... I can do as much as the iPhone if not more (all the popular apps are already available for both platforms). I can also devleop stuff for it. For free. Using a commonly known laguage. As opposed to paying $50 or something a year for a developer's license and using Objective C (which is something only Apple seems to use) rather than Java.
Conclusion: I'm happy with my phone. No iPhone envy from me. The only iPhone envy are those who are either Apple fans or those who are too lazy to find another alternative.

I'm a verizon customer who wouldn't trade his android device for all the iphones in Cupertino. I have no use for a closed system on my phone.

Fine by me. I'm not a me-too Apple fanboi wannabe. I have a very powerful phone in the Incredible, on a flexible platform that doesn't dork its developers around or tells its customers to go somewhere else if you want Flash.
This is easily a win scenario for Android. We'll have to wait and see if it turns out to be a bad move for Apple, but I suspect that their disrespect for customer desires will ultimately bite them in the bum. Then again, we're talking about the idiot American consumer here, who typically likes being dorked around and told what to do and not to do. The polar opposite of MaxPC readers. =)

The longer apple holds out from verizon, the more android can capitalize on that. eventually the "envy" will recede and apple will have given up alot of share to android

I wanted an iPhone but didn't want to switch to AT&T. I'm very happy with my HTC Incredible.

"Verizon Customers have iPhone Envy" Ha, speak for yourself. I live outside the Steve Jobs ecosystem, it's very nice here. In all seriousness, I'm very happy with my Android.

... waiting patiently :-)
My HTC Eris did survive the 2.1 update (which I was surprised by) and the performance has gotten better.
The iPad should suffice for some of my work-related tasks - so long as AT&T coverage in this area doesn't suck.
