Valve Putting Hopes, Dreams, and $25 Million into Left 4 Dead 2’s Ad Campaign

With Left 4 Dead 2, Valve’s showing its full hand. It’s going all out. After all, with no other major franchise to help line the developer’s pockets, what other choice does it have?
"We'll be supporting Left 4 Dead 2's launch with a $25 million campaign," said Doug Lombardi, Valve's vice-president of Marketing. "Left 4 Dead 2 has already set the record for greatest number of pre-orders in our company's history, and we're still over a month out from shipping."
"Based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve's history," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead's numbers."
So yeah, Left 4 Dead 2 – no pressure.
Now if only Valve tried its hand at building up another series – perhaps something with, say, physicists and small crablike creatures that reside on or around the head. They could be called… cranium crustaceans! Too bad Valve hasn’t been keeping a sequel to a crazy idea like that under wraps for nearly three years.

It boils down to this: do you want half life NOW when valve will deliver something unpolished and mediocre, or do you want to WAIT and get something that's true to the glory of the series?
And about L4D2, if you didn't like L4D then you shouldn't buy the second version, so so much for the "The first game didn't match my personal prefferences" trolls. Now that I think about it, what's wrong with L4D2?

I pre-ordered it after reading the last article that Max-PC wrote about about L4D. I got $5 off just for pre-ordering it. GG Valve. I'm excited to see at least a few of the PC game makers still surviving and as long as they put there heart and soul into their games I will support them because consoles are lame. Long live the mouse and keyboard.

Nothing beats a keyboard and mouse when you're gaming... Well, except for a Joystick, but those are for flightsims, that's different. But I degress...
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE 4 EVA!

Because nobody has yet made a fully remappable, backlit controller. That is, the two handed p-q style controller.

You can't blame Valve for making a few more prods at the cash cow, but I'd like to see them show some loyalty to their long standing loyal customers and dedicate more time to the half-life scene of things. Yeah, episode 3 would be nice, hope they finish what they've begun. But what about the future of half-life, I'm hoping to see hl3 sometime in their future.

I've got it pre-ordered, this game is going to rock! They really do need to give us Episode 3 though.

I didn't like L4D. I played the single player a little and found it repetitious. From reading online the fun is found in the mulitplayer but only if you get a good group to work with. To much hassle IMHO to find the fun when I have a mountain of other games to be played.
I'm more excited about Borderlands, Mafia 2 and Dragon Age than L4D

I have to agree with Samduhman on this one. A lot of great gameplay henges on rather or not your three other supposed team mates are really wanting to play the game right and make it an enjoyable experience with you. Nontheless, I've have had hours of fun playing L4D, so it was well worth the investment on my end.

If you only played single player then you didn't get the full experience. Playing with bots is very boring and I'm not suprised you didn't like it. Playing on Easy and Standard is boring too. Go for Advanced or Expert with multiplayer and then you've got the full L4D experience.

They need to continue their Half-Life series and get making on another CS:S/Portal. L4D 2 is going to be great and all, but people are going to be more resistant if L4D 3 comes out within a years time, too, like L4D 2. I've been reading news about Valve for months now, and I'm curious to know rather or not they're hurting really badly these past for years...
