Unannounced Core i3 Chip Shows Up at Retail
Intel continues to keep quiet about its upcoming budget Core i3 chip that everyone knows is coming, but that's okay, because we don't need an official statement from Santa Clara to tell you more about this part.
The chip is already available for preorder at Canadian retailer A-Power. According to A-Power's listing, the dual-core Core i3 530 will come clocked at 2.93GHz.. It will also sport 512KB of L2 cache and 4MB of L3 cache, and comes priced at around $150 in U.S. currency.
Intel's upcoming 32nm Core i3 is part of the chip maker's Westmere architecture. The company has previously said that Westmere chips should deliver performance and power benefits that trump the company's current 45nm lineup.
We imagine it won't be long before Intel officially introduces its 32nm Core i3 lineup.

I wonder how this will perform in gaming applications. Dual Core, but the rumors are it'll include HT for an effective 4 threads of fun. Here's hoping it performs better than the C2Qs, because if not, why bother with it at all. I mean, Okay, you do get the QPI speeds, and it is cheap, but if it can't outperform a much older CPU at a similar price point...?
It's probably going into a friend's Budget Gamer. At least he'll have an upgrade path to the normal 1156s right?

I bet that chip would fit nicely in a low power HTPC. What kind of performance difference is there from having the larger cache be L3 rather than L2? Does each core have 512KB of L2 or only 256? Is the 3MB L3 shared, or 1.5 MB each?
Also, since I can't comment on an ad anywhere else... a Usenet ad on the front page? I know it has "legitimate" uses, but seriously guys? Don't let the Radar folks get the best of your morals.
