Yea... Ubi Sucks at alot of things. Pirates & piracy suck 20 times more. I listen too all these pathetic losers that refuse to spend more than 10... 20... or 30 $'s on any game out there, and then they flap thier mouths blaming everything and anyone else when THEY are a root cause for this garbage plagueing honest and avid pc gamers! Game developers WORK to make a good living, just like I do. If I build someone a home and they live in it without playing me... I'd be friggin pissed
If you support piracy in ANY way at all you should just stfu loser!

avatar

bling581

Yeah! Because I love spending $60 on a piece of garbage console port! That's what most devs charge for new games, despite the quality, number of bugs, DRM etc. So consumers don't work hard for their money?

Your reply is just as bad and just as ignorant.

TooManyLosers

I was referring to pirates. Are you a pirate? If so, go **** yourself. If not... I have never had issues with a new title that I couldn't live with until I found a fix or one was supplied. PC gaming hasn't been around very long and has evolved at an such an incredible rate, It's IGNORANT to assume a portion of the consumers will not have any bugs, compatibility issues, problems with DRM, etc, etc..
I could easily blow 60$ at a county fair and not get the entertainment value i get from the games I've purchased. I don't know what games your buying... or if your even buying them?

Ubisoft, please, please don’t DRM FC3… Everybody else understands that DRM only fucks the people that actually pay for the software.

avatar

satrain18

Ubisoft calls it "Online Services Platform". I call it "Obviously Screwing Players".

I would love to see another Seamus Bellamy anti piracy rant posted right in this story. I haven't bought any Ubisoft games since Conviction. I swear to god they will never get another dollar out of me. MaximumPC are fans of romanticizing names for labeling people but I don't think I'm a pirate. I just don't put up with getting ripped off.

avatar

PhuxAche

Ubisoft get your fuckin act together. Drop the DRM you bunch of Hitlers. Your days are numbered...

avatar

Bad Kharma

Wouldn't be a problem if they didn't have such shitty DRM. Only in gaming could a company call its clients a bunch of thieves and they still deal with the company.

avatar

h e x e n

How are these trolls still making games? Seriously, Ubisoft needs to crumble and die.

avatar

Markitzero

It is DRM like this that I fear buying games that has this DRM type in general because I am on a Rural Wireless provider were I live and I don't want to be playing in single player mode games and my connection to burp and it exits me out of the game. So far I have been lucky not to buy games like that.

avatar

Suijen

Does that mean that there will be a class-action lawsuit against Ubisoft for not guaranteeing that their game will work? Server maintenance is Ubisoft's fault, not the players'.

avatar

livebriand

If there were any Ubisoft games I liked, I wouldn't even consider buying them due to the DRM (thepiratebay FTW!!!!!).

Bought farcry2 on sale on steam and far cry 1 because my son liked playing far cry 1...funny thing is I had a pirated copy of far cry 1 for a couple of years that I didn't hardly play but never had problems with it. Well since I wanted to be legit I bought it and the problems hit right away. Nothing like having to enter your cd key over and over until their server decides to take it, or messages at random that your cd key is already in use. My reward for buying their game was frustration. I also had few problems with far cry two but I was so numb by then I played the game for an hour and then deleted it. I won't buy ubisoft anymore, but I'm not gonna pirate their games anyway. Assassins creed was neat to look at but quickly got boring for me (I had a pirated copy to test out). I haven't seen anything released by them lately worth the headache so my money goes elsewhere.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Sounds like a perfectly good reason to pirate their games. And I don't pirate games, or any software. But, I'd gladly make an exception for UbiSoft.

avatar

Scatter

There's never a good reason to steal things. I agree that Ubisoft's DRM sucks but rather than resorting to stealing how about just not purchasing or playing their games at all?

avatar

Brad Nimbus

Actually I think it is a good reason to steal. They don't mind stealing so why should we?

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Call it my natural reaction to someone who is trying to fuck me over.

avatar

Zoandar

I like the "vote with your wallet" idea presented earlier. I won't buy any of their trash, ever.

avatar

qhoa1385

I bought HAWX 2 awhile ago
it took them about 3weeks to solved the damn launcher problem...
took me about 2hr to pirate the "ready-to-play" version of the piece of crap...

Everyone who reads Max PC will most likely agree that Ubisoft is a shit company with shit DRM. Many of us will even refuse to buy their games in the future because of this.

However, with people shelling out money like it's their job to get every new release Ubisoft puts out, they won't have incentive to get rid of their draconian DRM. Why change your policy when you're still raking in millions because people have to get their "fix" like a drug addict for whatever new game comes out?

Blame Ubisoft all you want but the real blame should be put on people who constantly go out and pay full price for their products right when they come out.

noobstix

Heh, I remember like a few days after I bought ACB and ACR, their service went offline for about 24 hours. It pissed me off (even though I had finished ACR the night before). I'm debating whether I even want to spend money on the next AC game. But like what I do with EA, I will never spend my money on another game series from this developer/publisher. In other words, no Tom Cuh-lancee, Settlers, Anno, etc. I'm limiting myself to games/series that actually interest me (which isn't a whole lot).

avatar

Kromix

Buy used (xbox), that money doesn't go to Ubisoft... Get the game and boycott at the same time ;) for PC though... tough cookies :( i stopped buying PC Ubi and EA completely

avatar

Kromix

i like assassin's creed ;) but i buy them used, give the money to evil gamestop instead... F-U Ubisoft!

avatar

Five Rabbits

Sometimes I wonder if Ubisoft exists solely to make other DRM plans seem reasonable by comparison.

avatar

Biceps

The last Ubisoft game I bought was FarCry2, and I won't buy anything from them again until they change their ridiculous DRM policies. What a bunch of dumbshits.

avatar

Wonko33

Considering most of their games are unplayable to start with it's not much of a drop.

avatar

damicatz

Incompetent morons. If your IT people can't be assed to come in during the off-peak times then it's time to fire them and get new ones.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Don't make me ass you again to check your spelling.

avatar

Biceps

Butt it is hard!

avatar

Joji

Next up! Pirating every single Ubisoft game (except for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Rainbow Six: Patriots)!

avatar

Vordar

Not to say that all this plain sucks... but a company the size of Ubisoft that has the nerve to charge the prices they charge for their games saying that they dont know how long this will last is inexcusable, if their IT department dont know how to properly migrate servers they shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a computer.

avatar

Modred189

DRM != bad. S*&%%y DRM like that used by Ubisoft sucks. I LOVE steam. It's a great compromise between publisher control and enabling the user/player.

This, though is inexcusable if it actually means downtime.

avatar

iceman08

I understand the article's intent, but of all the games being disabled, I would only have concern for H.A.W.X. 2, even though I don't own it. half of the games are on Mac as it is

avatar

bling581

Wow! Good thing I don't buy anything Ubisoft. They're a company that definitely doesn't "get it". Then they wonder why their games are pirated so much.

avatar

ApathyCurve

Great plan, Ubi! What's next? You gonna send somebody over to my house to unplug my computer? Why don't you kick my dog and help yourself to my beer fridge while you're here?

Clueless freakin' morons. I hope you go out of business soon; I'm certainly doing my part to further that goal.
