Really?  Tomorrow?  What a tool.  'Oh no! The DRM servers are down!  We should something!  Oh wait it's 5:00, time to go home.  Okay I'll do it in the morning!  They don't need their games until then right?'

I can't believe you guy's haven't done a piece on Battlefield Bad Company 2's EPIC FAIL.  It's been almost a week and if you can connect to a sever you're lucky to last an hour befor you get kicked... 

 

I wonder if "they" are secretly trying to promote piratecy (sp)...  Everything in this world takes the path of least resistance.  If people can spind 1 minute finding a cracked game, install it, crack it and play it without any hassle for free...Why would they pay money, to only play a game if they have internet AND the happy majic server say's they can play...

 

I'm not advocating pirateing, just pointing out the obvious.

Good thing they try this new DRM on a crappy game. If it was say, Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age, they had more than just complaints.

I myself am a big fan of FarCry2 (multiplayer mode), however as others have pointed in the past on ubisoft forum, ubisoft don't seem to care about user's comments and request. Even simple request such as to make the banner that displays the game type at the beginning to each round to NOT be in the middle of the screen (distracting and annoying), etc.

This reminds me of the fiasco that happened on the release day for ME2.  The EA "authentication" servers (*coughCerberuscough*) for the "day one" DLCs epically failed leaving quite a few players pissed off at not being able to do a simple verification of the DLC.

If there isn't DRM, the game still gets pirated (despite people wanting to buy the game as it does not have DRM), and if there is DRM such as this, the pirates focus their attention on how to pirate it while consumers vote with their wallets and don't buy the game.

Are you serious, or just trying to stir the pot? OF COURSE games are stilll pirated, rather they are DRM-free or not. FFS, that is not the point at the end of the day. The point is that people who illegally download the games from P2P sites don't have to deal with DRM because its been ripped off or disabled, so that people CAN play it without having to pay... The other point is that people who LEGITIMATELY buy these video games have to suffer being punished with the DRM still enabled, and go through shit LIKE THIS.

Games will ALWAYS be pirated, rather or not they are DRM-attached. The simple fact is that pirates use the DRM as a scapegoat for getting the game when really they just don't want to pony up the money.

This is what I say to every last one of you pirates that uses the DRM as scapegoat. If DRM games make you pirate but not pay, I DARE you to BUY the video game from the store legit, and then download the game from a P2P site where it won't have DRM on it. In other words, if you use the DRM as a scapegoat, prove it by buying every game you've ever pirated, and every game you will pirate from here on out.Either that, or just look at yourself in the mirror, and admit to yourself that you are a stealer.

 Nothing gives any individual the right to steal from another person; moreoever, if you DONT like the business of a particular individual, in this case Ubisoft, then don't buy from them, or do what I said above.

How in the world did you get that the guy is a pirate from his post? I got exactly two things, both legitimate points.

That DRM hurts the sales of games, and that is a fact. I know I don't buy any game that has draconian DRM. In fact, I buy games that have DRM* rarely, and only when they cost next to nothing on Steam. That hurts sales.

That DRM attracts pirates to games that have DRM because they use it as an excuse AND that it is a challenge to crack it. Basically the same thing as putting a sign in your yard that claims your house has unbreakable security. SOMEONE is going to break in. If only to prove you wrong.

* Yes, I know that Steam IS DRM, but it is a different class of DRM and I don't count it among the SecuROMs, Tages, Ubishit, etc DRM schemes out there.

 I dunno if STEAM is really a DRM, sure they PREFER you to be online but game run just fine in Offline mode.

DRM (noun) - If a company could someday shut down a server and prevent you from playing your games, THAT'S DRM. Steam is unquestionably DRM by any standard. Some people just dont' mind DRM when it's packaged in shiny wrapper.

Oh, Steam is indisputably DRM. You have to have a Steam account, and be initially logged in with that account, to play a game. You can then switch it to offline mode. 

However, Steam gets a pass in my book because it also privides ME some benefits while protecting the publisher's content. It gives me convenient access to my games, friends lists, updates to games (even if that particular benefit is hit and miss). 

That Windows Live thing tries to do the same, but fails miserably in every way possible. So, while it is also DRM in the same vein as Steam, it was implemented by a bunch of barely trained monkeys and fails spectacularly.

No other DRM comes close to Steam, and the rest of them can go to hell in a handbasket for all I care.

First and foremost, I WAS NOT calling him a pirate, but rather calling out on anyone who has pirated to pay for their stolen property. Secondly, I have stated in the past, and I realize that DRM DOES hurt sales. Last but not least, re-read my post, as you obviously missed this point,"Games will ALWAYS be pirated, rather or not they are DRM-attached. The

game when really they just don't want to pony up the money." Which basically just RESTATES what you said above about game sales being hurt by DRM. People would rather use a scapegoat, rather than pony up the money.

I don't really need to re-read your post. The way you worded your post made it sound like you were calling HIM a pirate. I was just stating what I got from his post, which didn't include any indication that he was being a pirate. Other than that, there was no commentary on the additional content of yours. I think you are under the mistaken impression that I didn't understand your post, beyond thinking you had called the other guy a pirate.

To prevent confusion like that in the future, you might want to take more care using the pronoun "you" in reply to a post.

err what do you really think DRM is going to stop pirates i never buy games for there Online component, Single player and multi on private LAN, online game play from New Zealand Sucks the big Kumara (look it up)

Suprise! I've always felt gamers have been 100% justified in hating DRM and refusing to buy games under DRM, particularly heinous DRM such as this. This just goes to solidify that justification even more.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if it were true... heh, though personally I'd more likely believe that they just screwed up. That said, it doesn't matter if it WERE pirates. If they can't protect their validation servers from being hacked, they have no right to force paying customers to use them.

DRM is like spitting in the face of your customers*at the register* on the off chance one of them is shoplifting... Not only do you miss all the shoplifters, you don't exactly endear yourself to repeat customers.

(Ok, this version of DRM is more like spraying a certain OTHER bodily fluid in their face at the register, but let's not follow that path too far... if only cause I really don't want to know what they're going to come up with that can further be extrapolated along this path.)

I whole-heartly agree with you. Gaming publishers spit in the faces of the people who purchase their games legit, whilst the people who rip from P2P servers don't have to deal with DRM. It's honestly like you're being punished for buying the game and the activation server goes down, and your next door neighbor is playing the same game meanwhile because he doesn't have to activate.

I was looking forward to purchasing some games published by Ubisoft, as it stands now I will not be purchasing any products from them until this ridiculous DRM goes away.
