Tweet Lands Chinese Woman in Jail
The BBC in reporting today that a Chinese human rights advocate is being jailed for sending a tweet. The incident occurred last month when Cheng Jianping's fiancé (who is also a human rights advocate) sent a tweet insinuating that those protesting Japan's presence at the Shanghai Expo would make more impact is they just smashed Japan's pavilion space. Cheng retweeted this comment, adding the words "Charge, angry youth".
Ten days later she was in police custody and is now sentenced to one year of re-education through labor. The charge was "disrupting social order". The Chinese authorities keep a close eye on comments made on social networking sites like Twitter. Even though the site is officially blocked in mainland China, some people do find ways to access it.
Cheng Jianping's fiancé, Hua Chunhui is trying to get her released to serve her sentence at home, but the government has not budged.

Well, non-story here. She wants to incite violence against innocent persons simply because they are of different race!
Get with the times lady! At least you deserve the jail time!
(and no, I'm not of Jap descent but of HK!)
Sheesh, chinese can be some of the most racist on this planet!

your blaming the president who has been in office for two years for fifty years worth of outsourcing, add to that fact that a republican president would have done just as little as Obama has for ending outsourcing if not less. Also add to that the fact the News Flash that the government needs to spend more money than it ha these days and no matter who gets in office they will not reduce the current debt without destroying out entire economy, Its gonna be bad when it happens, I would prefer if it happened later.

Umm, because most of our manufacturing has moved there?
Well, in the last 100 years, we've tried subversion (the CIA in pretty much all of Central and South America, well, all around the world, really), outright war (Vietnam, Iraq, you know the rest), and blockades (Cuba, anyone?). Maybe making China completely dependant on our trade will work better?

We were at war with China and Korea during the Korean war. McArthur was fired for suggesting that we drop atomic bombs on Beijing. The US Marines and Army along with a few Nato Allies fought the North Korean Army to the Yalu river that borders North Korea and China. As soon as we were at the border the Chinese Army attacked. I recommend you read a book called Colder than Hell. We had beaten the North Korean Army, but China had an endless supply of men to throw at us. We didn't lose, but because of politicians we didn't win either.

Given China's apparent guilt in launching cyberattacks, their current system of government, their history of violating human rights, and their previous (sometimes brutal) suppression of dissidents, I'd be willing to bet the tweet was planted by the Chinese government.

So I guess the wedding is off then? Or at least it's considerably delayed. He should reassess if he really wants to make a family with an ex-con, a hardened criminal. Hmmm... Could be worse, she could have been sentenced to a labor camp, doh!! she was sentenced to a labor camp. Well at least when she gets out she'll be fit...

Just a small reminder that China is still the Communist country we all know and love. Although, Cheng is a complete moron for inciting her 'angry youth' to vandalize Japan's pavilion.

I guess everyone deserves human rights. Unless your Japanese. At least according to Cheng Jianping and Hua Chunhui.

Well, Japan doesn't exactly have a beaming history with China. One of those things that hasn't really healed in time either.
