Three P2P Strikes and You're Disconnected? France Gets Ready to Enact Anti-Piracy Law

The World Series might be over (congrats Philly fans), but baseball fever is apparently sweeping through France in the form of a "three strikes" copyright enforcement proposal gaining ground in the country's Senate. The pitch is this: Get caught downloading illegal content a first time and receive an email from the ISP with a warning. A second strike earns a written letter via snail mail, and a third strike means you're out. Of course, in baseball striking out is only temporary until the next at-bat, and for internet surfers caught breaking the law three times, they'd have to wait a year before having their internet connection turned back on.
The controversial legislation is receiving widespread support with a cross-party vote showing 297 in favor of the new law and only 16 voting against. That leaves it up to the French National Assembly to vote on and decide the proposal's fate. If it should pass, the French government could find itself at odds with the European Parliament, who earlier this year shot down the notion of cutting off repeat offenders.

meh sounds like some ppl are gonna get scared, some might push the enevelope, and some companies will loose lots of money

Maybe you should have read the info. I doubt it was a blank page with just the link that said "Dark Knight." If it was a camera then it probably said "cam or maybe telesync." Either way, it doesn't matter. It could have been an R5 or a screener; but you still downloaded it.
Glad I don't live in France.

Foreign theatre or not you still downloaded Dark Night illegally. Your mistake wasn’t accidental you meant to download it, just like you said.

no I downloaded a torent that could have had anything to do with Dark Knight i was not looking for a botleg. Hell it could have bee na burn of a cable tv review of it.
It wasn't but i wasn't looking for the movie illigitimalty

Something liek this is to easy to abuse or get wrong. I would hope if it ihits the use "strikes" can be revoked.
Id hate to loose my interent for a year over lagitimate p2p.
For example i recently was geting some torents on shows and movies. I never saw the Dark Knight and there was a torent for one. Figured it might be something interesting. But whan i opend it i noticed the tel l tale signs of a camcorder in a forign theatre and promplty deleted it. Charter paretned was notified of a ileagle download and tracked it to my ip wit ha cease and desist (which i had done before the email)
i'd hate to think if i made 2 more mistakes id loose my net for a year.
