Thanks, Lazy Lawmakers! French Antipiracy Bill Defeated

Ah, the French. Sure, they may be the butt of many a joke, but its situations like these that remind us that they’re (usually) well deserved.
While the “Creation and Internet” bill (a bill that would allow ISPs to take actions against customers accused of illegally downloading copyrighted material) won preliminary approval in French Parliament last week, it would appear that too few members supporting the bill showed up to the hearing that ultimately saw it denied.
According to reports, the bill was expected to pass, but a low turnout caused the bill’s opposition, the French Socialist party, to defeat it by a vote of 21 to 15. And while President Nicolas Sarkozy’s own UMP party was able to propel him to the highest office in France, they were unable to turn down that third crêpe, and missed out on the hearing.
This isn’t the last we’ll hear of it though – the UMP party does intend to reintroduce an amended version within the month. Maybe this time they’ll show up?

Your party supports a new law but you personally don't like it too much. What do you do? You don't show up the day of the vote so that nobody can accuse you of voting against your party line and upsetting your constituants.
Politics as usual and alot like the way it has been done over here. I wouldn't call them lazy. I have alot of choice words for the French but hay we do have this country because France helped provide us with a Navy don't forget that and at the battle of Yorktown they did prevent the British Navy from rescuing Cornwallis' men or reinforcing them and pretty much forced the British General to Capitulate pretty much the whole revolutionary war.

I just want to point out

I just want to point out that this bill said that action could be taken against people who were ACCUSED of piracy. That's right, no proof had to given. I hereby accuse Nicolas Sarkozy of piracy. Now shut off his internet!!!
Lazy French?

How about lazy reporting? There is a wee bit more to the story that that. Why don't you crack open a fresh browser tab and see if you can find out what it was, oui?
P.S.

Yes, this was the bill that would allow ISP's to shut down people who illegal took copyrighted material... Funny how they didn't show up for their own bill. o.0 I guess they expected the "opposition" to agree with them.
