Texas Instruments Announces Color TI-Nspire CX
Get ready to see Texas Instruments' Nspire handheld like you've never seen it before. The company is rolling out its new color-display CX model, which TI says will enable students to better observe patterns and make connections between math and science concepts and real-world learning. It will also come with new 3D graphing capabilities.
"The TI-Nspire CX handheld exponentially changes how we can teach mathematics," said Carlo Trafficante, the first educator to pilot the TI-Nspire CX handheld in a classroom. Trafficante teaches Calculus, Integrated Algebra and Geometry, and Advanced Math at Austintown Fitch High School in Youngstown, Ohio. "With the addition of color as a key learning cue and with 3D graphing, students can better visualize and interact with class exercises. I can emphasize different parts of an equation with color, so the charts, tables, graphics and even photographs that I import into my lessons have more impact and relevance, and enable students to make the important connections among all of these representations."
TI's CX model boasts a 16-bit, 320x240 pixel resolution display capable of showing images and animations. The CX also features a slim profile and a rechargeable battery.

A better alternative would've been to just develop their own "TI-84" app for the iPod Touch and iPad. Imagine how much fun students would have solving math problems via graphing on the iPad?? If students are having fun and engaged, imagine how much more students will like math? Something that the US is falling behind in.

Because it's so much easier to use something with dedicated buttons. A touchscreen is far inferior to having dozens of funciton buttons, on a calculator. And this way they can at least pretend it's a learning device, although I think we all know anyone with one is gonna be playing mario.

This will never pass Professor Steelman class. She already has a hard time accepting TI 84 in the classroom because the college makes her do it. A color 3D graphic calculator, she would have either thrown you out or the calculator.
