From what we've been seeing and hearing so far, this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is going to serve a heavy dose of Ultrabooks to attendees and could emerge as the prevailing theme, much in the same way 3D dominated last year's show. Hewlett-Packard is getting a head start and has released a short teaser video of its upcoming Spectre Ultrabook, presenting it as if it's going to be the Holy Grail of laptops.
The video (embedded above, courtesy of The Verge via YouTube) is three and a half parts dramatic and half a part showy, offering only a brief glimpse of part of the Spectre before it fades out of view. It's a lot of fanfare without much reveal, and if the goal was to leave viewers wondering what's so special about this particular model, HP succeeds.
Intel is the Ultrabook form factor's biggest advocate and has been working with hardware partners to adhere to certain specifications. The idea is to mix ultra-thin portability with powerful components typically reserved for chunkier laptops, and then serve it up at attractive price points, ideally below the $1,000 threshold.
Since HP already offers an Ultrabook model for business (Folio), odds are the high the Spectre will take aim at home and college consumers.
