Tablet or Laptop? Lenovo's IdeaPad U1 is Both!
America loves split personalities -- how else do you explain Hanna Montana's rise to stardom? -- and that's exactly what Lenovo aims to deliver with its new IdeaPad U1 laptop/tablet hybrid.
"The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook is a game-changing technology in the PC industry that lets users switch their PC experience within a single device to match their dynamic lifestyle," said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Idea Product Group, Lenovo. "By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet's rich multitouch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity."
On the portability front, Lenovo says the IdeaPad U1 has a footprint slightly smaller than a sheet of notebook paper and weights just 3.8 pounds. And in terms of the hardware, the hybrid notebook sports an 11.6-inch HD LED display and Core 2 Duo SU processor. Remove the outer display, however, and it transforms into a tablet with a Qualcomm ARM Snapdragon processor.
Other features includes 4GB of RAM (512MB in slate/tablet mode), a pair of USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, VGA, HDMI, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and a 1.3MP webcam.
Look for it to ship in June for about $1,000.

This an interesting approach. It is common to take care of SEO from the individuality of ones' blog or web while leaving the incredible opportunity social media offers aside. This post clears up the way to better understand the way both activities interact and the steps to be taken to get the best results in your way to success.

I agree that it seems like a pretty silly idea. I would guess they did it this way becausethey didn't want to simply make a slate with a removeable keyboard like other companies have done for years. I would guess the LCD when detached runs an entirely different OS (maybe a custom linux) with a little bit of onboard storage (ok maybe I hsould have read the links first, it runs "Skylight OS"). Heck, mybe down the road the display/tablet portion will run Chrome OS.

And a year and a half before we see a DIY quad-screen origami notebook...

This seems like a really bad design to me. Why would you not just make the keyboard the removable part and have all the internals behind the screen? Instead they went for an completely seperate processor and ram when used as a tablet. And how the heck is windows going to cope with that?

I think it's a great idea. If they put everything in back of the monitor it would be bulky when you want it sleek. I would imagine the two OS's never touch. It has to be two seperate systems. That's the only drawback, files on the main computer won't be accessable on the slate. But if you live in the cloud it wouldn't matter. Just a guess but when the monitor is plugged in it automatically turns the linux side off so there is no conflict, although with wubi windows and linux get a long a lot better now a days.
Just my thoughts.
