T-Mobile US to Get Old Model iPhone?
Wired editor Chris Anderson issued a strange bit of information via a tweet last night. Apparently, he was told by a T-Mobile manager in no uncertain terms that the nation's number four carrier would be getting the Apple iPhone 3GS later this year. The new iPhone 4 is apparently left out of the deal. This is still strictly rumor material, but it seems to jive with previous rumors.
There have been rumors that the iPhone could come to T-Mobile. The transition to T-Mobile would be simpler for Apple than moving to Verizon. T-Mobile also uses the GSM standard like AT&T does. The iPhone would just need GSM chips capable of operating on T-Mobile's 3G frequency. Verizon uses CDMA, and would require a much larger redesign of the phone's internals.
User's have been clamoring to get access to the iPhone on another carrier. Verizon is often cited as the best option considering their expansive network. T-Mobile has a much smaller, but faster, HSPA+ data network. Would you be interested in the iPhone if it were on T-Mobile?

Yes, yep, yeah! I started cell phone service with T-Mobile with thoughts of eventually getting the Iphone. But, when I saw what my out-of-pocket expenses would be to purchase and unlock the phone and stay with T-Mobile USA as my carrier, I decided to wait for the AT&T contract to expire and see if T-Mobile USA would be the next carrier.
What I'm not interested in is having the old version of the phone. That seems to be a ploy to keep AT&T on top by forcing those who want the 4G to buy it at retail price if they want the latest and greatest to use with their T-Mobile carrier. That's risky if you ask me. What's to say that AT&T 3GS users (and there's a lot of them) who don't want to upgrade won't just mosey on over T-Mobile USA for better pricing?

Been a tmo customer since it was voicestream wireless (just because i never had a big need to change). As an apple hater i would probably never get an iphone anyway, but i just picked up a new Vibrant(samsung Galaxy S) saturday and WOW!!! Forget the iphone, get a galaxy S no matter what carrier you have, this thing is cool!

Agreed! Like stated before, I just got my Vibrant yesterday, and that shit is AWESOME!!!! My old iPhone 3g feels fat, cheap, heavy, and bland looking after my vibrant! Not to mention that crappy lcd screen on the iPhone looks TERRIBLE after the SuperAMOLED vibrant screen!!!!!!!!

Not really a fan of T—Mobile and I despise Apple. I don't care what carrier it's on, I will never use an Iphone. I'm getting sick of this lowercase "i" nonsense.
The droid would be my phone of choice.

It's a little dated (a G1) but it works perfectly and is paid for. No need to switch. My next phone, when I get tired of this one, will be another Android-based phone.

Get a vibrant. I went from an iphone 3g to a vibrant and it is so much better I cant express it with words. The only bad thing is the android facebook app is horid compared to the iphone one.

So why would someone on T-Mobile choose the old iPhone over phones such as the Vibrant, or upcoming G2, or heck even the HTC HD2 which we all know is going to be ported to Windows Phone 7 by a VERY active HTC modding community.

On my second "buddy deal" iPhone with T-Mob now. First one (2G) worked great till I broke it. Good thing it was free. This one (3G) works fine too. T-Mobile was very accomodating when I set up. I've helped a coupla other friends and they have no trouble. The data network is not great (Edge), but I don't really notice that most days. The fly in the ointment is the terrible coverage of T-Mob. Out in the sticks, I see Verizon, but nothing else.

The only way I would even consider an iPhone would be if it were free AND Jobs were dead. Even then, *maybe*. The Apple culture is too sanctimonious to want to take part in.
