I think part of the problem is people not understanding exactly how to install Flash, or having weird random issues. (I'm totally serious.)

How many times do you look at a machine and find between 2 and 10 copies of the Flash installer from the same day or week?

I literally have a friend who just would reject YouTube links, no matter the hilarity or interest factor, because Flash was "broken" and "wouldn't work."

I got to sit at that machine eventually and fixed it in 30 seconds.

maybe if your Flash wasn't trying to call home every 1-3 seconds more ppl would update it ^^

Why EXACTLY do you NEED Flash to call home every 1-3 seconds hmmmmm?

...and any1 using Acrobat is just....silly  ;)

Take an OS, and edit out all the efficiency, and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)

For PDFs, I'm using a combination of Foxit and Image2PDF which is still under 100MB combined (I use these two programs for converting manga scanlations).  It's really good for those who still have smaller HDDs and does as much as the bloated Acrobat does.

However, I still have a copy of Acrobat 7 (which only has my favorite function available if I'm using XP) as well as a portable version of Photoshop CS4 which is only around 200MB (I didn't really like Paint.net or GIMP).

As for Flash, I just got an update to version 14 not too long ago.

The is probably because Adobe does a terrible job at notifying users of updates. Acrobat is ok, at least it has an update utility to go with it, but the fact that I must go out of my way to completely reinstall Flash once in awhile just in case Adobe released and update and didn't tell me about it (which they never do) is absurd. I'm probably running a vulnerable version right now, but I have no clue, because Flash has no update tool. Flash is actually one of the few pieces of software I would let update automatically, but that is not an option. Is Adobe the new pre-2001 Microsoft? No. Microsoft was never this bad.

Agreed, they really need an auto update feature for one of the most vulnerable pieces of software on the internet.

Adobe is a terrible software company. All of their products are severely bloated (acrobat is the worst software program I've ever laid eyes on, even worse than IE), and are all very vulnerable to security hacks. With flash and PDF's being such a common format on the internet today, this is totally unacceptable.

Then there is the fact that 64-bit OS's and 64-bit browsers have been available for years, yet there is still no flash for 64-bit browsers at all from adobe. There is not a single PMP which has flash support either, and this is not because of hardware limitations. Hardware from years ago much less powerful than the iPhone have flash support. Adobe is just lazy and refuses to keep on top of emerging technologies because they just don't care.

Then there's the fact that all of their products are astronomically over priced. It's not surprising at all that adobe products are some of the most pirated software in the world.

Foxit reader is an incredible alternative to Acrobat. Props to MaximumPC for recommending it. Just make sure to check for updates and install the jpg support plugin after you install it. I have no idea why Foxit doesn't include this plugin by default.

SIGNED. For something that should be simple to install/upgrade its totally the opposite. You'd think you were installing a full office suite just updating it. What a pieces of crap software and company.

This type of software shouldn't be vulnerable in the first place.

Thanks for the Foxit reader tip. I didn't realize there was an alternative.
