God Damn STEAM! Why can't they be more like Origin? In the past 2 days I had spent just under $180.00 in buying 22 games (15 as gifts) including Crysis 2 Maximum Edition and Witcher 2, for 5 people including myself. All titles have been reported to have downloaded, installed, validated and run without any issues. Now 5 gamers are happy with major titles, without any of the aggravation of release-day bug b.s. when they sold at premium price. What are the folks at STEAM thinking? Thereafter I logged onto Origin, looked at their more responsible sales model, marvelled at their integrity, bought not one damn title, then logged back onto STEAM and bought a few of the EA titles that may be decent for dirt cheap. STEAM's sales are downright despicable and an affront to the gaming industry, as what's-his-face had squealed.

my neighbor's half-sister makes $70 hourly on the internet. She has been laid off for five months but last month her paycheck was $17706 just working on the internet for a few hours. Here's the site to read more NuttyR|ch.c0m

"Who is this Origin guy everyone keeps talking about?" - Steam

avatar

RaptorJohnson

As a guy who does most of his gaming in a tent I can't really make use of steam and its fickle offline mode.

avatar

I just ordered all the parts for my new pc build just a few days ago. I had no idea there was a Steam summer sale. Sweet jesus this is some great timing for gaming. For my wallet? Not so much.

avatar

captainjack

I'm literally in the exact same boat. I'm building my first gaming PC and the parts are coming in today!!! I saw this article last night. I just got 3 games and 2 expansion packs for 50 bucks.

Welcome to the sweet world of pc gaming :)

The Corrupted One

Oh no, my wallet is going to die, Starcraft 2 was already a big enough hit.

Now Crysis 2 and whatever else catches my eye.

avatar

LevierPekinese

The only problem is that after spending hundreds per some of the previous sales, I now have almost every game on Steam that I consider decent.

go check out your account with the steam calculator site and it'll show you the "worth" of your purchases at retail. <-- ~$4500 (i feel the same way)

http://www.steamcalculator.com

there's a few calculation "flaws" but its quite interesting

avatar

MastaGuy

Think of it like this, you saved so much money, and space storing all those games.

avatar

MastaGuy

Oh my gosh. I want Arma2 so badly, but the deal is so terrible for it, even though its incredibly popular because of the dayz mod.

avatar

John Pombrio

Cripes! I already have a bunch of games that I bought over the Winter sale that I haven't even played yet. But I want MORE! MORE! MORE!

avatar

jonnyohio

Same here...I have several games I have not gotten to yet and now this! Take my money Steam! Lol

avatar

timmyw

To Steam: "Take my money, please! Thank you! Thank you!"

To EA's David DeMartini: "Piss off, wanker!"

Who has the better business model?

avatar

zaphodbeeblebrox 42

the temptation to troll this comment. anyway. steam does yes. but ORIGIN does 2 thing i really like :)

1.OFFLINE MODE F*UCKING WORKS!!! WHAT A CONCEPT STEAM!!!

2. you can control game downloads in game via a little control in the in-game overlay.

other than that i had a nightmare making bf3 work online and for some reason any graphics intensive game in origin causes my computer to shut down. this only happens in origin. no where else.

avatar

jonnyohio

For the problem with your pc shutting off, this is prob a hardware issue. Get core temp from alcpu.com and monitor your CPU temps while idle and playing games. If they are spiking too high your pc will shut down to prevent damage to the CPU. If that is what is happening it may be time to clean out the dust, and reapply thermal paste. I have to do this every 6 months for my desktop (I use it daily for work and gaming). If the problem with temps still continues consider getting a better CPU heat sink and fan, but dust buildup in the heat sink and fan is the number one cause of sudden shut down when playing games. If that's not it then it could be your PSU.

I don't know what's up with your Steam setup, but mine works fine with offline mode, which I can activate _after_ going offline, and/or blocking steam's access to the internet, _without_ having to tell steam while I'm online that I plan to be going offline.

If EA had made the push for cross-platform play with Origin and the consoles I would have been inclined to give it a shot, but it does nothing that I want.

avatar

LevierPekinese

Offline mode works right every time in Steam if you just do it right. Meaning make sure you save your password, switch to offline mode before you lose your Wi-Fi connection, and don't try to start Steam when your computer falsely thinks you're connected to the internet.

avatar

zaphodbeeblebrox 42

my password is saved. as for the rest. i shouldn't have to "make sure i switch to offline mod before i lose wifi" seriously. no other game client makes me do this that i have used thus far. only steam.

this is the main reason im holding off on buying pretty much anything from them. for most people it wouldn't be a big deal to make sure they are in offline mode before there net goes out.

but for me i never know when its going to happen.same goes for my friends. one of which lives 40 min out of town. want to driver for 30 minutes just to log into steam because its to good to have an offline mode that works WITHOUT an internet connection?

avatar

LevierPekinese

After you do it once it should do it automatically from then on. Going back online again breaks the chain, but it really isn't an issue for anyone I know because they always keep their laptops offline on Steam because we all game online on our desktops instead, only going online for installations, updates, and such. If you keep going online on Steam on a regular basis, just put it into offline where you would normally hit exit.

Landstander

EA thinks this is bad business.

avatar

Balgaroo

Origin, suck my dick!

avatar

finally! I was expecting the sale was going to start like 2 weeks ago.
First day great, I totally recommend Crusader Kings 2.

avatar

TommM

Oh well, I knew I was saving up for something.

For those who don't own it, I recommend "Legend of Grimrock." Excellent dungeon crawler reminiscent of "Dungeon Master" days.

avatar

John Pombrio

Grimrock makes me nauseous. I have no idea why, blocky graphics? Same with Minecraft.

avatar

Neufeldt2002

I only wish these deals would come when I have money. *sigh*

avatar

*Throws wallet at monitor*

avatar

jonnyohio

So you chose the express checkout method I see.

avatar

Peanut Fox

UGH! Freaking store has slowed to a crawl! I need the deals!
