Well I guess that ends all of that?!!

I'd pick this up for sure. I've got Halo: CE and Halo 2 for PC. If we're lucky, Halo: CE would be the re-released anniversary edition with the updated visuals.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

They're going to make it a Windows 8 exclusive, just like they made Halo 2 a Windows Vista (another OS failure) exclusive. As if anyone would downgrade to Windows 8 just to play a five-year-old game.

This is just another turd Steve Ballmer can shove back up his fat ass. Fucking coke head.

Halo 1 was released for all windows systems.
Halo 2 was only available to all post windows vista systems (I think) and only through the games for windows marketplace.
I am 90% sure Halo 3 will only be released for windows 8 through the windows 8 app store as an app for metro

And if microsoft released all the halo games for PC only through the windows 8 app store, I am sure sales of both the game and the OS would jump up.

"Halo 2 was only available to all post windows vista systems (I think) and only through the games for windows marketplace."

It was for Vista and later OS' due to DirectX 10 which doesn't run on pre-Vista. But there was a hack to get it on WinXP (although I don't think it was perfect) as for "only available through the GFW marketplace" this is incorrect. It was available via boxed copy as that is how I picked it up.

i would buy it!...i enjoyed halo ce.

I'm intrigued: I have the vaguest of notions Halo 3 was good.

See: Halo 2 got bad reviews everywhere, and demanding Vista just didn't fly while XP was still the better OS.

Halo: CE was fun, if uneven at times; Assuming the price is right, I could see springing for it …

Habanero II

assuming the price is reasonable, HELL YES!

A PC port from M$ which might not use the hated GFWL drm system and only use the (less odious) SteamWorks? Color me skeptical.

avatar

And3rs0nTX

When I played xbox this was probably my favorite game. I would gladly fork over the money for this.

avatar

Hilarity

I'd buy . . . if 1,2,3 were re-released on PC as proper DirectX 11 ports with high res textures and tessellation in a big fat fancy boxset for $60. Then yes, otherwise fuck you Microsoft. You could decently port the entire Halo universe to PC within a week if you really wanted to not shackling the series to a 7yr old cuntbox.

Meh.

Usually I say "too little, too late" to news like this, but to be honest, I'll take it. Halo 3 weekends were some damn fun times at my friends' places back in college. I wouldn't mind experiencing that all over again on my PC with better graphics and a mouse/KB as icing on the cake.

With a Steam release at the right price, you'd definitely have a good crowd of players come in.

I played Halo 1 and 2 on the OG Xbox, but I never got the chance to play any of the later Halo games because I didn't have an Xbox 360. If the price is right, say $10-15 I would pick it up. This is assuming it is not a dreadful port, hopefully a graphics update will be applied. So if it is a decent Xbox port ill pick it up no problem. Then I can wait another 4-5 years to play Halo 4.

i can hear all the console kids flocking to buy it for pc. not only because it is galo but because it will more than likely interest all the achievement whores on xbox

avatar

wolfing

how exciting... yet another shooter, and a 5 year old at that. No thanks.

avatar

luusyphre

Let me guess, it's for Windows 8 only. They did this with Halo 2 too and Vista. I BOUGHT that damn game and still haven't been able to play it. I skipped Vista, but the game wouldn't even install on Windows 7!

avatar

acidic

i played halo 2 on win 7 less than a year ago and it ran great. still just another shitty over-hyped series but atleast it played perfectly

Who fucking cares? this game is ancient. I'd be excited if they were announcing Halo Reach or Halo 4 for PC.

I played Halo 1 and enjoyed it. When Halo 2 came out and Microsoft said "Xbox only", it was obvious Microsoft was only interested in strongarming me to buy an Xbox. I lost interest in the franchise.

Then they released it on PC, 3 years later, and only for Windows Vista. Yeah, thanks for the knife in the back, Microsoft.

Now, here we are. I remember Halo 1. I never got Halo 2. And now they want me to pony up $50 or $60 for a 5 year old video game.

Microsoft can go jump off a cliff with their beligerant marketting stategies and Windows 8 Style UI sledgehammer-on-your-face-take-it-or-leave-it attitude.

I hate Microsoft more than I do Apple's walled garden and Google's wonderfully splintered Android foulup at the hands of cell service companies, combined.

Burn in the undewrold, Microsoft. You are rotten to the core and need to be cleaned by the fires of market forces.

Microsoft doesn't own The Halo franchise anymore. It's 343 industries.

avatar

Peanut Fox

343i was established by Microsoft, and is also owned by Microsoft.

avatar

Brandon Floyd

My apologies, I meant to say Bungie. Bungie doesn't own Halo anymore.

This is ridiculous in my opinion. Halo should remain an exclusive! It's one of the many reasons I was so proud to own an Xbox. Thanks a lot 343.....

I guess this is the same type of 'meta-enjoyment' that Apple lemmings have with their devices. To some it's more of a status thing than really wanting or needing the device (or the x-th iteration of the device).

I've never liked the whole 'exclusive game' thing, basically because either I have to buy several devices to play the games I want, and have to hookup more cables, use more space in the ent. center, figure out how to add another device to the home theater/tv/cable/console nightmare, etc.

Instead, let all games play in all devices, and let other things like online services, price, quality, speed, console features, etc. drive the decision on which device you get.

avatar

Warrior247

Anybody happy about this should've just purchased a 360. It's "insane" to have to wait 5yrs to play a game and not even get the respect of getting the current version at least.

avatar

DoctorX

consoles suck... it doesnt exist unless it is on pc... at least the rumor is it is coming to Steam. That cool... because if it doesnt exist on steam, it doesnt exist in my opinion.

avatar

Warrior247

Hopefully it's just a rumor. The game has no business on the PC. Gears of War doesn't either. THIS is the game that b!tch slapped Crysis to the point that Crytek went console. Steam is the Netflix of gaming. A bunch of old @$$ games for sale and still charges you for them. Meh!

avatar

steven4570

they have plenty of new games priced lower than the console version...and there is nothing wrong with old games.

avatar

Warrior247

I dunno, I'm just not impressed with Steam at all. I can get old discounted games anytime I want. I can download direct from the source, or other sources. I can buy new, used, do trade-ins ect. I just think that M$ has shown the PC it's a$$ with this 5yr old offering. Steam obviously paid them for it "after" attacking the platform and M$ itself. Just goes to show that Gabe slid under M$'s desk like he was stealing home plate. I never said there was anything wrong with old games, I have plenty. But it seems that the consoles get more releases and more AAA releases than PC. Mark my words "if" this game hit PC, PC gamers will be b!tching and whining about it. They did it with Gears of War and Windows Live. After that M$ pulled back from the platform.

avatar

steven4570

and during their sales when new release titles are cut in half?

avatar

Warrior247

Sales? Just buy used, or turn the game in for money. Games like DMC for example were already 30-60 days old on console? HALO 3 is 5yrs old? C'mon. You can get HALO 3 used right now for less than $5.00. When it lauches on Steam it WILL NOT BE $5.00!

avatar

Peanut Fox

The current version doesn't seem to be doing so well. At least not in relation to it's predecessor.

avatar

Warrior247

It's doing a HELLUVA lot better than Crysis!

avatar

Peanut Fox

What's Crysis got to do with anything?

avatar

Warrior247

Oooooh nutin'.

I would be interested in a port for Halo 3 to the PC. I would also be even more enthusiastic if they announced a Halo Custom Edition like variant for Halo 3. The current Halo community is still alive on the PC after more than a decade later, and I believe this will help breathe new life into the community.
