Star Wars Movies to Receive 3D Makeover in 2012
The entire Star Wars saga is being converted to 3D and will pop up in theaters sometime around Valentine's Day (February) 2012, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm haven't settled on a specific date just yet, but did say they'll kick things off with "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace." If it does well in the box office, the other five films will follow a year apart on around the same date. Another option being discussed is releasing the rest the saga at different times throughout the year.
By releasing the 3D remakes early in the year, George Lucas is hoping to get a head start against summertime blockbusters, and also sell related merchandise throughout the year.

I remember once when Lucus said that Star Wars was not like Star Trek. That unlike Star Trek he wasn't gonna keep releasing movie after movie and series after series. That was back before there was a tv series. Back when there were only three movies. Back before half the toy section at Wal-Mart was Star Wars toys even though the last movies was years ago. Back before the original three movies were re-released. Back when Han Solo fired first. etc... etc... etc...

The whole thing about Star Wars is toys for kids. There are kids out there that haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies and this will make current kids cry for all the new toys that will once again hit retail stores.
George Lucas is like the Evil Oil Man from the movie There Will Be Blood. He is just shaking Star Wars down for every last possible penny he can get out of it. This is actually much better than him actually producing new stories and movies because the prequels pretty much proves that Mr. Lucas sucks at making any kind of story. Just look at Indiana Jones 4, he had to get Steven Spielberg drunk and high and had pictures taken of Spielberg with dead hookers to get him to join the Jones 4 project.

I'd actually look forward to go watch Episode III in 3-D. I know people here hate the prequels with a passion, but I actually thought Episode I was decent (although Episode II did suck). But Episode III is actually pretty awesome (apart from Hayden's acting) and I would rank it above VI.
The fights and panoramic scenes in Episode III and the Duel of the Fates in Episode I would look amazing in 3-D IMO.

Imagine Jar Jar's ears flinging out at you as if it was going to hit you in the face. It may get too real for some people as they stab into the air in front of them trying to kill the Episode 1 characters that seem to be within easy reach.

I hope they give a 3D makeover on the Family Guy Star Wars episodes.

I am only going to see them in theatres again just because its star wars on the big screen, not because it is in 3D. I am 90% sure he will make more changes to the movies, in addition to the 3D. Just because, thats what he always does.

Do they actually think Episode 1 will do good in the box office? It was the worst one out of the entire series. How does Lucas not realize that?

They could remaster episodes I, II, and III in fucking 5-D and it still won't change the fact that those are terrible movies that suck donkey-dick. I think being immersed in the movie would only make it suck more.
Other movies begging to be remastered in 3D:
12 Angry Men
Glen Garry Glen Ross
My Dinner With Andre
Car Wash
Breakfast Club
Reservoir Dogs
The Dark Backward
Memento
All the President's Men
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, Her Lover

I MAY, go see 'Return of the Jedi' in 3D, and maybe A new Hope (come on, trench run scene, or the Forest moon of Endor stuff will be impressive) but that's it...
And even then, it's a very big maybe...

Wow, sadly I am reminded of the South Park episode, in which Kyle and Stand work feverishly to stop George Lucas and Steven Speilberg from remastering Raiders of the Lost Ark. Honestly, these movies that George Lucas is wanting to redo are among the most precious to geeks/nerds all around, and should not be changed to make a profit. It's his films, but shouldn't the fanbase have a voice in what he does? I may see these "newly" released films when they come out, but I can tell you that I won't put much money on them being better than the originals. I cannot believe George Lucas is doing this, I really cannot.

They already do, and they'll still go and see it...Phantom Penace is 12th highest grossing film of all time ffs (http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross?region=world-wide)
I'll admit to being kind of curious to see how much more this latest iteration will ruin the line even further. That said, after seeing a dead glowing Hayden Christensen at the end of the the most recent 'tweak' of Return of the Jedi, I still won't be able to bring myself to see it for fear of barfing on my own shoes again.

I thought that I would never say this, but George Lucas is officially kicked out of the Geek club for attempting to ruin (possibly succeeding) the Star Wars series.

OH come on! Isn't it bad enough every new animated movie that comes out has to be 3D? Leave Star War alone already. Haven't they wringed enough money out of that franchise? I'm still pissed about Avatar being re-released in the theatres. What a load of crap that movie was.

but its a special edition Avatar with some previously unreleased scenes to make it worth the extra 25bucks an 2 hours of life spent on it.
