Staggered Windows 7 RTM Schedule has OEMs System Builders Behind Schedule
Posted 08/03/09 at 12:43:59 PM by Paul Lilly
According to news and rumor site DigiTimes, Taiwan-based OEM PC makers are still waiting on Windows 7 tools from Microsoft as well as final validation tests from independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs and IHVs), putting them behind schedule. Previously, OEMs had hoped to roll out PCs with Windows 7 by the middle of this month, but are now shooting for September.
Although major OEMs were given RTM copies of Windows 7 around July 24th, the staggered release schedule is forcing ISVs and IHVs to wait until August 6th for the same code. That means OEMs hoping to include third-party software, like antivirus software, or drivers for specific hardware devices have to wait as well.
In preparation for Windows 7's October 22nd retail release, OEMs planned to have 10 million units of notebook and desktop PCs ready to go. In order to meet that goal, they would have to produce 2,000 PCs in a single month, which sources say isn't likely to happen.

...you only see what you want to see in what I write. I LIKE Windows XP, maybe the words "post-XP Microsoft operating system" in my sig are too complex for you....go ahead be a sheep...I don't care. I just read the 5 page description of Win 7's backup proceedure.... I could back up and restore with Norton Ghost about 5 times, in the time it took me to read that. I don't hate Microsoft....I just hate what they are DOING. No one is MAKING them do what they do, in fact, sheep like you are WHY they are doing what they are doing.
Here's another little fact for you: Guess what the best OS for overclocking is? You got it....32bit Windows XP :)
Try real hard to either comment on the topic at hand or refrain from wasting space....anyone can flame like a grade-schooler :/
Take an OS, and edit out all the efficiency, and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)

......delays....smells a lot like the Vista rollout. The really sad part is: Customers are gonna rush out and buy Windows 7 and it's gonna come installed on everything....THEN the crap will start...yet again :/
Take an OS, and edit out all the efficiency, and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)
Dude, just go buy a Mac

Dude, just go buy a Mac already since it's clear Microsoft will never EVER do anything that you will see as acceptable. Or I've got a better idea, just go and build your own OS since you seem to be able to do so much better than Microsoft...

preventing activation leaks?

maybe after the stint with the other company that had released activation keys or something like that. so staggering releases would aid in their process to keep track in case something like that happens again.
I can see them doing that.

I can see them doing that. IBM ruined it for everyone else!

The first thing i do when i buy a new computer is run a program called Decrapifier. It removes the crippled, limited software that all PC manufacturers install.
